DATES FOR RETROACTIVE PAY AND NEW SALARY RATES
DATES FOR RETROACTIVE PAY AND NEW SALARY RATES
The PSC has been informed by the City and State that the schedule for payment of retroactive salary increases and implementation of new salary schedules is as follows:
Senior Colleges—State Payroll
Increased salary rates plus all retroactive pay will be paid in the October 12 paycheck.*
Adjuncts at the senior colleges who are paid through a new contract each semester will receive their increased rate of pay when their fall semester payroll papers are submitted by CUNY payroll offices.
Community Colleges—City Payroll
Increased salary rates will be reflected in the September 8 paycheck.*
All but the first year’s retroactive pay increase (0.5%) will be paid in the following paycheck, on September 22.*
The remaining 0.5% in retroactive pay will be paid on October 20. The delay in this portion is because of the complexity of calculating the retroactive amount.
*NOTE: The dates above describe most cases; there will be some variation for small groups of employees, such as those in titles with no salary step schedules (i.e., in the Law School and the Medical School) and certain Continuing Education Teachers, all of whose increases require hand calculation. Hunter Campus Schools employees will be paid increased salary rates and retroactive pay in the September 22 paycheck.
While the dates for community colleges come close to what we had been told to expect, the October 12 date for the senior colleges does not. Both the PSC and CUNY management pressed the City and State throughout the summer to speed up their complex programming and auditing processes so CUNY faculty and staff could be paid in a timely way. The union emphasized how long members have already waited for this money. We informed the State Comptroller’s Office that the October 12 date was not acceptable.
At the PSC’s request, State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi has written directly to employees at the senior colleges. Also at the request of the union, the CUNY Chancellor’s Office has notified colleges that they may receive a limited number of requests for emergency loans. In cases where the October pay date causes a severe emergency in cash-flow, there are procedures in place to enable you to request an advance against your paycheck from your college Office of Human Resources. (CUNY has informed us that colleges will be able to honor only true emergencies, because too many requests would delay calculation of increases for everyone.)
