Swivel casters naturally rotate to face the direction of travel, making it difficult to steer ordinary medical carts. Simply turning a cart with standard swivel casters only changes the orientation of the cart having little to no impact on the direction of travel. To push such a cart around a corner requires the user to perform a somewhat awkward procedure to apply a force in the new direction of travel possibly resulting in personal injury and workman’s compensation claims.The Solution: Steer Assist Technology (SAT) provides a method to limit the range of rotation of the rear casters on demand, making it easier to turn corners and navigate crowded corridors, while still allowing the enhanced mobility provided by swivel casters when needed. When engaged, SAT allows the user to change a cart’s direction of travel by simply turning the cart toward the new direction – no additional force is required to overcome the forward momentum.
