An Open Source PDF generator that works as a virtual printer.

In conjunction with Ghostscript, this provides for the handling and creation of PDF files via PostScript files in a graphical interface.

Freeware HTML text editor with a lot of extensibility and features available.

Very simple freeware HTML text editor.

Freeware screen capture program.

Irfanview



Freeware image editor.  Doesn’t have a lot of capabilities, but can be used to resize and make other general adjustments.  Particularly useful on a system without commercial image editing software.  

FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

This is an Open Source graphical FTP/SFTP program, supporting SSH connections.

Star Downloader



Freeware download manager.  Very helpful for large downloads over slow connections, and generally better than browser download managers.

The basic idea behind open source is very simple: When programmers can read, redistribute, and modify the source code for a piece of software, the software evolves. People improve it, people adapt it, people fix bugs. And this can happen at a speed that, if one is used to the slow pace of conventional software development, seems astonishing. Open Source Initiative exists to make this case to the commercial world.
