Notes

Students learn all their phonics (older Open Court Publishing Company) in K4, K5, and 1st grade, reviewing it in 2nd and 3rd grades. The spelling program also reviews

all English phonograms in grades 1-3. The elementary reading program is very challenging; the texts contain advanced vocabulary and sentence structure, and the comprehension work requires textual analysis in

all grades. 1st and 2nd graders (as well as upper elementary students whose word attacks skills need to be strengthened) read the text multiple times, orally. After reading the text, all the students independently answer comprehension questions about their reading, support

their answers from the text, and rework poor answers. Classic literature is also read daily by the teachers to their classes. Additional extracurricular reading of classic books is required.

Our daily chapel service is the backbone of our elementray

music program. Here, students learn to use music for its primary purpose - to praise God intelligently, wholeheartedly, and beautifully. Students learn hundreds of the historic hymns and psalms of the church. In weekly music classes, 4th-6th graders also concentrate on

learning to play the recorder well, and participate in recorder and vocal choirs. Some years, 3rd graders also begin to play the recorder.

A sacramental worldview is strengthened with the ability to understand, respect, and use hand tools. Classes develop basic skills for future and lifelong pleasure in traditional manual skills. Projects help students develop fine-motor skills, learn precise language skills, and round out a liberal arts training, opening the future to further specialized interests.
