THE LUST OF THE FLESH

(Gal 5:14-17) For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love [agapao; sacrificial love] thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed [destroyed] one of another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary [to lie opposite: adversary] the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would

(1 John 2:15-17) Love [agapao] not the world [kosmos], neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life [Gen 3:1-7; Mat 4:1-11], is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away [departs], and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1. (John 14:15) If ye love me, keep my commandments.

(James 1:12-15) Blessed is the man that endureth [to stay under, persevere: take patiently, suffer] temptation [Dict: enticement or allurement]: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him [vs. love the world]. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man [but Satan does]: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust [a longing (espec. for what is forbidden): desire], and enticed [deluded: allured, beguiled]. Then when lust [the influence of Satan in you] hath conceived [matured, formed - from a thin wisp of idle thought into a concrete well-developed opinion or purpose], it bringeth forth [to breed forth, i.e. to generate: beget (THE ACT)] sin [offence]: and sin, when it is finished [completed entirely, consummated], bringeth forth [to produce (from seed): bear, be born, bring forth, be delivered] death [“For the wages of sin is death” Rom 6:23].

1. (Exo 20:3) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2. (Mat 22:37,38) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

3. (Gen 3:13) And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me [to lead astray, i.e. (mentally) to delude, or (morally) to seduce: beguile, deceive, X greatly, X utterly], and I did eat.

4. (Heb 11:24-26) By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures [(to please); sensual delight; by impl. desire: lust] of sin for a season [for the occasion only, i.e. temporary: for awhile, endure for a time, for a season, temporal]; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

SAMSON THE SON OF MAN

(Judg 16:1-3) Then went Samson [sunlight] to Gaza [stronghold – one of the five principle cities of the Philistines], and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him. And Samson lay [to lie down (for rest, sexual connection)] till midnight, and arose at midnight [after lying with the harlot (whore) church, He arose as Samson the Son of God], and took the doors of the gate of the city [the gate of a city is a biblical symbol of power and authority], and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron [alliance, association, communion; the highest city in Palestine, from which David ruled during the first seven years of his reign].

1. Gaza = Heb: strong /// strong, vehement, harsh: fierce, + greedy, mighty, power, roughly /// to be stout: harden, impudent, prevail, strengthen (self), be strong.

2. harlot = Heb: to commit adultery (less often of simple fornication; fig. to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah): (be an, play the) harlot, (cause to be, play the) whore.

3. (Mat 25:6) And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

DELILAH THE DAUGHTER OF SATAN

(Judg 16:4,5) And it came to pass afterward, that he loved [to have affection for (sexually or otherwise)] a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

1. Sorek = Heb: a vine /// in the sense of redness; a vine stock (prop. one yielding purple grapes, the richest variety): choice (-st, noble) wine. [the fruit of the unsaved uncircumcised Philistines]

2. Delilah = Heb: languishing /// to slacken or be feeble; fig. to be oppressed: bring low, dry up, be emptied, be not equal, fail, be impoverished, be made thin. [This is what death looks like]

4. Progression: The first Philistine woman that Samson had a relationship with was his wife (Judg 14:15), with whom he did not consummate their union, i.e. no nights together. The second Philistine woman that Samson had a relationship with was the harlot (Judg 16:1), with whom he did consummate their union, but for one night. The third Philistine woman that Samson had a relationship with was Delilah (Judg 16:4), with whom he did consummate their union for many nights.

5. Progressions: wife (lust), harlot (sin), Delilah (death: James 1:12-15). Wife (the Jewish people), harlot (the church), Delilah (the “great white throne” judgment: Rev 20:11).

Amen
