At the beginning of the year, they typically shadow the supervisor and then take on more responsibilities as the year goes on. In Peoria, school psychologists are responsible for both evaluation/eligibility determination as well as providing IEP services to students with social, emotional and behavioral needs. As such, interns gain experience in “traditional” school psychologist roles, such as facilitating meetings, giving a wide variety of tests (cognitive, academic, adaptive, behavioral, etc.), and determining special education eligibility, as well as other roles involving IEP services, such as writing present levels of performance and IEP goals, utilizing curriculum, running group or individual sessions, and tracking goal progress. As part of the Peoria internship, we also provide interns the opportunity to rotate 1 day/week for a quarter in each of the following areas: Preschool Assessment Team; Specialized Program (i.e. self-contained program); High School. This allows them to get some experience in each of these areas, as they each have slightly different roles than the elementary school psychologist on a traditional campus. Please describe how supervision is provided to interns in your district: School psychologist interns receive supervision from their immediate supervisor a minimum of 2 hours/week throughout the year. Typically, interns are supervised much more toward the beginning of the year and less as their skills increase. They continue to receive a minimum of 2 hours they are more closely supervised at the beginning of the year and it lessens as their skills increase throughout the year. Will the supervisor(s) provide 2 hours of direct supervision for every 40 hours worked: YesHow many hours do interns typically accumulate throughout the year: 1500What other information should intern candidates know about your district or internship experience that is not listed here?Peoria is a large district with a wide variety of opportunities. If interns have specific areas of interest (e.g. obtaining an Autism certification, etc.), we have been able to tailor their experiences to both meet their needs as well as ensure they graduate as a well-rounded school psychologist. Are there at least two licensed doctoral psychologists on staff in the event that a doctoral candidate wishes to receive supervision consistent with a future pursuit of licensure: NoDo you require students to apply to the district ahead of time: NoIf so please provide directions for students on where to apply (physical address/email address/website) and what portfolio materials to submit:Interns are not required to apply ahead of time, though it is preferred. If they want to be considered for a position, they will need to submit an application at some point.Applications can be accessed at under the “I Would Like to…” menu by choosing “Apply for a Job.” Applicants are required to complete the online application and to upload a cover letter, resume, unofficial transcripts and letters of reference. Other portfolio pieces are not required, but if the applicant wishes to provide more (e.g. sample reports, etc.), they can be brought to the interview. ................
