Development Committee Report 2008
Development Committee Report 2008
Grants Paid to NFBI through this committee's applications are:
1. Lions Club contribution -- Jacksonville Area Lions Club $200.00 for the 2,008 State
Convention
2. $5,000.00 Miller Foundation, unrestricted
3. Imagine Fund NFB -- $5,000.00
4. Andrews Family Foundation -- $2,000.00 The grant proposal has already been written for 2009 and will be mailed in early January.
5. Knapheide $5,000 is secure.
6. We also got $12,000 from the Leona Stanford Vollintine Charitable Trust.
Annual Appeal
Annual appeal Letter Campaign -- approximately $1,400.00 was raised in 2007. Appeal letters
were sent out late this year, but almost $700.00 was received by Kelly within the first several
weeks of the mailing having been sent. Cathy added 20 new names to the Villas' mailing list.
Patti sent at least 20 updates to the Villa's as well. Thank you notes need to go out.
Denials:
The two foundations that turned us down were: The Best Foundation, the ask was for $5,000.00
and the Monticello College Foundation for $6,000.00. Both refusal letters said our proposals
were excellent, but both foundations had more worthy requests than funds. We've applied for an
additional 25 grants to fund FreedomLink, and we've not been selected for15
Pending:
We are still in the running for 10 grants related to FreedomLink.
Reports:
Cathy sent a report to Mr.Richard Lansdon and will send one to the Miller Foundation as well.
Imagination Fund first report is due in Jan.
Future Plans:
The NFBI Board needs to designate where the Miller money will be spend so the Committee can
inform him in writing. This will help with additional proposals. Denise Avant has agreed to
assist with writing grants which should help us expand our grant writing and train more people to
write these proposals. Patti is still cultivating Ms. Lindon who gave to National but might also
give to NFBI. Since personal contacts lead to the most grants we need to work with as many
personal contacts as possible. Lions clubs yield smaller grants but if we started sooner and gave
presentations, we might be able to get more of those.
