Atomic Structure and Periodic Table Test Review

Atomic Structure and Periodic Table Test Review

Objectives: To be successful on this test you should be able to do the following things

1. Use your knowledge of the development and reasons for the construction of the periodic table to address where similarities can be found and the relative reactivity of different elements.

2. Correctly give the name for the special named families and areas on the periodic table.

3. If given a specific atom or ion, identify the mass number, atomic number, atomic mass, and the number of each subatomic particle.

4. Be able to apply your knowledge of the properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloid, to identify an element as such based on a given set of properties.

5. Apply a basic knowledge of the meanings of quantum numbers to answer questions on other topics.

6. Use the Aufbau Principle, Pauli Exclusion Principle, and Hund’s Rule to write the orbital filling diagram, electron configuration, condensed electron configuration, and Lewis Dot Diagram for any element on the periodic table or answer related questions.

7. Apply your knowledge of stable electron configurations to predict the common ion charges for any element and recognize stable elements and configurations.
