INTEREST SURVEY
Must be returned by Monday, May 13
Edinburgh, Scotland (The Fringe) - August 2014
*This is only an interest survey, but we must use this information to decide if we want to make a monetary commitment to attend the American High School Theatre Festival ‘at the Fringe’ by May 24. The initial troupe commitment is $3,000.00 due by May 24th and will be applied to the total troupe cost. We would loose it if we decided not to attend.
State High Thespians is again one of 50 schools selected from over 1,000 applicants to appear in the American High School Theatre Festival ‘at the Fringe’ in Edinburgh, Scotland. The trip would take place in August of 2014 or late next summer. As you can imagine a trip of this kind is very expensive, but well worth the funds and the efforts. The trip includes 4 full performances in a festival theatre venue and 3 short ‘commercial’ performances on high street. A list of trip inclusions is attached. The Festival organizers are the best we have ever worked or traveled with and they work hard to establish dates for your group that will not interfere with your school year.
We would love to do a musical or play with music, possibly re-creating a show recently performed or creating a new (possibly original) piece with the period 7 Advanced Performing Arts Class. Any show selected will be based upon the students choosing to attend the Festival and would be cast or re-cast for that performance. We need to be able to both cast and tech a show with students. Although we may use adult accompanists if necessary, only students are to be involved in the performance and tech.
At this time we estimate the ‘Fringe’ cost to be $6,000.00. We would like to suggest a minimum payment of $4,000.00 along with a commitment to personal and group fund raising. Raising $2,000.00 or more per person is a big commitment, but can be done.
Based on previous experiences, fund-raisers will be organized to benefit the individual participant directly. Troupe fund-raisers would apply only to troupe expenses. We have great ideas for you to this end. One such idea is “JOIN MY PERSONAL “100”! Each student looks for 100 - $10, $20, or $50 sponsors for their trip. A token gift is given as a thank you. TBA. 100 $10 sponsors can raise you $1,000.00. Also, should we do an original piece or piece in the public domain all proceeds over and above production costs would be funds raised.
We would hope to have a minimum of 15 students, but would love to have 30.
The group must include both technicians as well as performers. At the “Fringe” students do everything themselves. Adults cheer from the audience.
Should our survey results indicate enough interest, we will call each of you to let you know what the fund raising picture would look like and ask for a more certain commitment. Although that commitment would still not be a binding contract and we could add at any time, we need to indicate a tentative group number by the end of July and pay an initial $150.00 for each. No names need to be listed at that time, however.
Please use the form attached and return it ASAP or by May 13th to let us know what you think.

*PLEASE CHECK ALL THAT WOULD APPLY with the understanding that although we would support each of you as much as possible with ideas and your “Fringe” group fund raising events you would be personally responsible for all remaining funds to $6,000.00 should the results of these events not reach your personal fund raising goal. And to that end, you/your student may be able to raise more than you initially thought.
I would be interested in having my child _________________________________ attend the ‘Fringe’ in 2014 with:
_____ a $4,000.00 personal payment and commitment to personal fund raising.
_____ a $4,500.00 personal payment and commitment to personal fund raising.
_____ a $5,000.00 personal payment and commitment to personal and troupe fund raising.*
_____ a $5,500.00 personal payment and commitment to personal and troupe fund raising.*
_____ a complete payment of $6,000.00 and a commitment to troupe fund raising.*
* Troupe fund raising would cover all additional troupe travel and performance costs.
My child would be a (circle all that apply) performer technician.
Please indicate an interest in chaperoning if you have one. ________ # chaperones/family others
Remember, if enough students commit to this trip at this time, we will be sending a $3,000.00 deposit to the American High School Theatre Festival. Although we will have that amount applied to the total troupe cost of the trip, we loose it if we do not choose to follow through. We will open the trip up to additional freshmen in the fall, but would like to be sure we have enough students to make the trip before we make a commitment.
