Course Description:
Economics is the study of how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions about the allocation of scarce resources. The economics course provides students with a basic foundation in the field of economics. The course has five sections: fundamental concepts, microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and personal finance. In each area, students are introduced to major concepts and themes concerning that aspect of economics. These sections and the standards and elements therein may be taught in any order or sequence.
Students will also receive a full credit for a Personal Finance course during this semester. The final grade that the student earns in Economics will be the SAME final grade they earn for Personal Finance.
A Note to Students:
No cell phones or headphones may be used in my class unless you are given permission by me the instructor. I have no tolerance for their use while I am talking or another student has been given the floor to speak. We will only be using a cell phone when given permission for academic purposes and head phones when I feel it is appropriate.
The keys to passing this class are good attendance, and a willingness to cooperate and participate. My goal is to make this class as informative, interesting, and entertaining as possible. I cannot achieve these goals without your help.
A Note to Students and Parents:
Economics is an eighteen-week course. It is REQUIRED for graduation. Should the student fail the course, he or she will be required to repeat the eighteen-week course. The Economics Course is designed to provide students with a basic foundation covering fundamental concepts, microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and personal finance.
If there is any portion of this course in which you are struggling, feel free to come during AO period so that I can help you. Parents can email me for answers to any questions or concerns. Remember that I am here as a resource for your benefit.
Makeup Policy and Assessment “Re-do’s”:
It is the student’s responsibility to come to me to get assignments for days missed. Students will have two days for everyday missed to complete all makeup assignments. All Summative Assessments must be make up immediately upon return to school.
Late Policy:
All assignments that are handed in are due on the date attached to that assignment but I will accept assignments ONE day after the due date-after that it is ZERO and will not be accepted!
Respect and Responsibility:
My class has two primary ideas around which all rules revolve: respect and responsibility. Respect the teacher and classmates by only talking during the appropriate times (discussions, group work, and other times designated by the teacher). Also, this class will involve discussion, which can only go smoothly when students respect fellow students’ right to be heard and their thoughts and beliefs.
Responsibility means that I expect all students to be prepared for class with the correct materials, to complete work in a timely fashion, and to come to class ready to discuss and learn about the day’s topic.
CHEATING: Cheating is a serious offense and will result in a grade of zero and referral to the administration.
