Assessment of Adolescent Subjective Wellbeing: The Personal Wellbeing Index – School ChildrenDr Adrian J. TomynSchool of Health Sciences, Discipline of PsychologyRMIT University, Bundoora, Australia. Australian Centre on Quality of Lifeemail: adrian.tomyn@The Personal Wellbeing Index-School Children (PWI-SC) is designed as a parallel form of the adult PWI-A, to measure subjective wellbeing. This paper presents empirical evidence supporting the use of the PWI-SC amongst 12-19 year olds. The results indicate good psychometric properties for the PWI-SC. It is also found that females have higher SWB but that both genders show an age-related decline in SWB from early to mid adolescence. Finally, this paper details a recent partnership between RMIT University and the Australian Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to use the PWI-SC to assess the SWB of ‘at-risk’ youth across Australia. The PWI-SC can provide important information for the development of educational policy. Key Words: Subjective wellbeing assessment; adolescents.ReferencesCummins, R.A., Lau, A.D.L. (2005).
