Assignment #1: Recognize Techniques in Real Ads

Review the types of propaganda and advertising techniques

Look for and cut out ads from newspapers or magazines that fit four of the twelve different types.

On a piece of paper, write down the names of the four items being sold, who is being appealed to in each ad, the type of appeal being made, and the techniques being used. These are the basic reasons you have for believing that you have identified the correct technique used in each ad. Add any others.

Assignment #2: Historical Notables Hall of Fame Ad

Use the tracing of your notable that you created this week to create an ad (propaganda) to convince a panel of your peers to vote “your” notable into the Historical Notables Hall of Fame. See the instructions on the other side.

You may create the ad from a third person perspective or you may let the notable speak for him or herself in first person.

Besides tracing or drawing the notable, you will need to color the notable and use good handwriting or computer font for the writing of the ad.

To create the ad, you must use one of the propaganda/advertising techniques you have learned.

Your purpose is to convince the class to vote your notable into a Historical Notables Hall of Fame.

Appeal to a human need and use some real facts about your notable.

Your ad may be serious or humorous, but genuine information about the notable must be used well.

You may choose to use your ad on your presentation board

Take reflection notes from the class lesson and discussion about how to use the propaganda and advertising techniques to promote your notable to the hall of fame below:
