PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCHParish Council MinutesDate: Friday, May 13th, 2016Members in Attendance: Father Hernando Gomez, Father Walter Tabios, Maria Quintero, Jim Yates, Geno Davidson, Lucille Villalobos, Sandee Macedo, Pete Comerford, Sheila Tavano.Members Absent: Wes Fischer, Ellen Fischer, Carlos Alvarado, Mikol Maitland, Don Morley, Jose Garcia, Kathy Kasnic, Lisa Patterson, Mirna Taylor. OpeningPresident, Jim Yates, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Fr. Walter Tabios led the council in a prayer.Minutes of the January Parish Council Meeting were approved as sent. St. James Society minutes were approved as sent. Pastor’s Comments – Fr. Hernando Gomez1. The carpet in the Faith Formation office and classroom 4 will be installed on May 23rd and 24th. 2. Chic Bist has repaired the drain just east of Cantwell Hall. He will replace the concrete sidewalk next week.3. The prayer cards for Mother’s Day were distributed by members of the Knights of Columbus after the Masses on Mother’s Day.4. The Confirmation Mass on April 24th was beautiful. Bishop Cotta officiated and concelebrated the Mass with Fr. Hernando Gomez, Fr. Walter Tabios, Fr. John Cantwell and Fr. James Liebner. Jeanne Rheault prepared the luncheon served prior to the Mass. Thanks, Jeanne.5. Kathy Barros, the Parish Financial Services coordinator from the Diocese, will be conducting an internal audit beginning, Tuesday, May 17th.6. The Clothes Closet hours have been changed beginning Monday, May 16th. The new hours are 9:00 p.m. to Noon, Monday through Friday.7. The Upper Room Jazz event on April 29th was very successful. Thank you to the Union Mine High School Band, the Ladies Society, the Upper Room Board and the many volunteers who worked that evening.8. The Annual Ladies Society Spring Luncheon was, as always, very successful. Many ladies chairing the various committees worked together culminating in a wonderful afternoon for the 175 attending. Jim Yates asked Sandee to remind members to attend. Sandee stated that she does contact the members prior to the meeting. Jim also requested that themembers stay with the agenda. The by-laws state that the meeting take one or1 ? hours. At meetings regarding the kitchen it was agreed that the kitchen is outof date. There are also several Gurnell Hall needs. The roof has been checkedand it also needs repairing. The building itself is structurally solid. Parishioners can not be solicited for any major projects until the Capital One Campaign is over. There are two years left on that campaign. John Walsh will repair all sidewalks.At present, Sheila Tavano said there is no fundraising event being planned by the Church Fundraising Team.The Ladies Society’s annual Spring Luncheon on May 7th was very successful and well attended. The Basket Raffle, Dessert Auction and luncheon were all well received.As of right now, Sheila reported that there are few tickets for Father Walter’s Retirement dinner planned for Saturday, June 4th in Gurnell Hall. A formal dinner is planned honoring Father for his years here at St. Patrick’s and also for the years spent in other parishes here in California.Geno Davidson said the Knights of Columbus, in conjunction with the Post Officewill conduct a food drive. Their State Convention will be held from May 19th-22nd in Santa Cruz. The Annual Memorial Day Mass will be held in our cemetery on Monday, May 30th at 10 a.m. A Bar-B-Que Rock and Roll evening is being planned.Lucillle Villalobos will study to be a master catechist.Maria Quintero said at their meeting this month, the members were happy to meet Bishop Cotta at the Confirmation on April 23rd. They were also offended by the short notice to cancel the 12:30 Mass on that Sunday. It was requested that should such a problem arise again, the Hispanic Community be notified 2 or 3 weeks in advance. It was agreed upon and confirmed. They are offering three $100 scholarships for high school students. The winner will be decided on June 6th. Any items requested to be put on the agenda must be submitted to Sandee, Jim Yates and Father Hernando thirty (30) days in advance. Financial Report:The Profit and Loss Previous Year Comparison report was reviewed. It was mentioned when reviewing the report that the All Souls envelopes should be announced (in the bulletin) and made available in the vestibule 3 weeks prior.The next Parish Council meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in Classroom 2.Father Hernando offered the closing prayer.Respectfully submitted,Sheila TavanoSecretary ................
