1. You must answer BOTH parts A & B

a. Describe the neuromuscular control of urine storage and voiding. You may choose to draw a diagram ( 15 mins)

AND

b. List the cranial nerves of the dog. For each nerve briefly describe a diagnostic test for function or dysfunction ( 15 mins)

2 A fracture repaired with a dynamic compression plate, in compression heals differently to a fracture stabilised with a cast. Describe the processes of fracture healing that will occur in each case. ( 30 mins)

3. Describe the clinical features and pathophysiology of three (3) of the following four conditions in dogs (Allow 10 mins each)

a. Chronic diaphragmatic hernia

b. Laryngeal paralysis

c. Hypovolemic shock

d. Extrahepatic biliary obstruction

4. Write short notes on three (3) of the following four topics

a. The phases of wound healing in a skin incision

b. The coagulation cascade

c. Perioperative analgesia for ovariohysterectomy

d. Patient skin preparation for surgery

6. Describe the anatomical features of the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and rectum in a dog and how they influence incisional wound healing after a surgical wound in each of these locations. ( 30 mins)

2. A 9 year old Boxer presents with a 2 cm ulcerated gingival mass around the left lower canine tooth. Describe your diagnostic approach to this case. List the differential diagnoses, the therapeutic options and expected prognosis in each case ( 30 mins)

3. Make brief notes in point or sentence form on three (3) of the following four topics. (allow 10 mins each)

a. Surgical treatment of middle ear infection in the dog and cat

b. Treatment of septic arthritis

c. Treatment options and prognosis for osteosarcoma in the distal radius of a Great Dane

d. Femoral capital physeal fractures

4. Describe the clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis for three (3) of the following four conditions. ( allow 10 mins for each)

a. Traumatic pneumothorax

b. Persistent right aortic arch

c. A primary lung tumour

d. Tracheal rupture in a cat

5. You are presented with a 5-year-old curly coated retriever (30kg) with a recent shearing injury to the medial hock. Describe you approach to the management of this case. ( 30 mins)

6. Discuss you management of a 6 year old Siamese cat with an intestinal linear foreign body and generalised peritonitis. ( 30 mins)
