I am a (study team member/investigator/staff member) of the “__________” study in which you have been participating with us at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).With your consent, I would like to conduct a brief interview to update you on the steps UTRGV is taking to resume in-person research visits since you are scheduled for an upcoming visit. First, thank you for helping us in our mission to advance science and discovery.We understand everyone has concerns and questions about risks with in-person contact during the COVID pandemicThese risks are not related to your participation in this study, but are associated with all in-person interactionsThe US Center for Disease Control (CDC) recognizes that some people are at higher risk of infection with COVID:UTRGV research teams are taking several steps recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to minimize risk to you during the pandemic. The study team will talk with you about these measures with you during your upcoming visit and ask you to sign a form to tell us you understand and agree to the research visit. [Only If the participant asks, “what are those measures?”]These CDC-recommended safety measures are available from their website at: (coronavirus/2019-nCoV):24 hours prior to your research visit calling to ensure you do not have COVID-related symptomsPrior to each study visit ensure all study personnel do not have COVID-related symptomsProviding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all UTRGV study personnel for each visitProviding face masks for you if you do not have your own maskYou will be required to wear a mask as you enter the study area and during study activitiesException: Activities that require physical exertion where wearing a mask is not possibleMinimizing the number of study personnel with you in research areasMaintaining social distancing of 6 feet between all people in study areas when possibleException: Procedures that require close contact as in providing instruction, obtaining blood or other samples, or performing proceduresGreeting you at your car on visit days to screen you for COVID-19 symptomsTake your temperatureEscort you into the research areaNote: No family members are allowed to enter the research area with you unless you have a medical condition for which you require a caretakerDisinfecting all study areas between visitsFor your safety and health, I would like to ask you some brief questions that will take about 2-5 minutes of your time about any COVID-symptoms you may be experiencing. If you are experiencing symptoms, we will refer you to your health care provider or our free UT Health RGV Phone Screening Line. [Take participant through attached UT Health RGV Phone Screening Questionnaire] [If screens positive for symptoms]: Thank you for answering my questions. I recommend we wait on your upcoming research visit. If you feel like this is an emergency, please call 911. Otherwise, I encourage you to call your health care provider as soon as possible or the free UT Health RGV Phone Screening Line, 1-833-UTRGVMD (1-833-887-4863). [If screens negative for symptoms]: Thank you for answering my questions. We look forward to seeing you [tomorrow/day of the week] for your study visit. Please remember to bring a mask. All UTRGV study participants are required to wear a mask as you enter the study area, unless someone on the study team tells you it is OK not to. When you arrive, we will ask you to please stay in your car, and call us at this number: [study contact number].We will then ask you to put on your mask and have anyone in the car with you put on a mask. We will then take your temperature to make sure you do not have a feverWe will then bring you into the study area with us. For your safety, we ask that you come with us alone into the study area, unless you have a medical condition for which you require a caretaker to be with you.Thank you.
