Fifth Grade News - Allen Independent School District

Last Friday all Cheatham Chargers  participated in the  Be the One kick off assembly in the gym!  Our visitor and presenter was Think Kindness.

At the assembly, we accepted two challenges for the next 15 days (Sept 14th-Oct 2nd):

• Documenting as a school, 5000 acts of kindness on our red and gold links.

o Goal: 10 links per student

• Collecting 1000 pairs of shoes for kids in Africa so that they can attend school.

o Goal: Donate at least 1 new or used pair of shoes

We will continue our links for the rest of the school year and we will also have more opportunities to do acts of kindness for our school and community.

Thanks in advance for your support!

We are super excited about igniting a kindness explosion and changing the world in 15 days!

Parent Preview Night

Parents, On September 1, 2012, Senate Bill 471 (Preventing Child Sexual Abuse and Maltreatment), went into affect. This bill requires school district staff be trained in the warning signs of abuse and how to report it. This bill also requires school districts to educate students in grades K-12 on these same issues. The Allen ISD Counseling Department is offering parents the opportunity to preview the presentation that will be shown to your 4th-6th grade children.

This presentation will cover the topics of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships as well as the various forms of child abuse. It will also educate students on what to do if they or a friend are being abused. Students in grades K-3 may view The Safe Side Stranger Safety video to introduce or reinforce the concepts of “stranger danger”. Clips of this video may be found by searching “The Safe Side Stranger Safety “ on .

Counselors may also choose to utilize the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center’s Kids Count Players puppet show with grades K-2. Information on that program can be found at .
