SS6G1: The student will locate select features of Latin America and the Caribbean.

SS6G2: The student will discuss environmental issues of Latin America.

SS6G3: The student will explain the impact of location, climate, and distribution of natural resources of Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, and Cuba

SS6G4: The student will describe the cultural characteristics of people who live in Latin America and the Caribbean

Essential Questions:

1. Where are the select Latin American countries and physical features located?

2. How are the countries of Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, and Cuba different?

3. What are the major concerns with Mexico, Brazil, and Venezuela’s environment?

4. Why are there different cultural blends in Latin America?

Warm-up: Vocabulary: Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Quotas, Embargos, Free-Trade Zone, Currency, and Rubles

Student / Teacher Activities:

Review pages 30-31 with students

Review: Map Practice “Students will take turns going to the board and labeling the select countries and physical features of Latin America.

Student Centered:

Students will create a study guide for the test on Wednesday. Questions: 9-37 and map of countries

Differentiation: Map practice and study guide based on ability levels

Students will read pages 32 and 34 in the coach book and answer questions 53-64

Why natural disaster has Haiti experienced in the past few years?

How are the people of Haiti dealing with this disaster?

How has this disaster changed their lives?

Why is their so much poverty in Haiti?

Student/Teacher Centered:

Documentary: Hope for Haiti and questions

Students will have a map of Haiti.

Students will answer the essential questions on the map and take notes.

Assessment: Notes and Questions

Differentiation: Differentiated by ability levels

Why natural disaster has Haiti experienced in the past few years?

How are the people of Haiti dealing with this disaster?

How has this disaster changed their lives?

Why is their so much poverty in Haiti?

Teacher/Student:

Finish Documentary

Review the essential questions from the documentary.

Students will compare and contrast their lives to the lives of children living in Haiti.

Students will brainstorm ways that children in Haiti might have a more positive future.

Differentiation: Differentiated by ability levels
