It is a systematic approach to reading of pitch and rhythm, as well as the development of secure technique. Recommended for student with no previous keyboard training before entering private piano lessons, MU2162.Course Objectives:Student will be able to:1 demonstrate the ability to read piano music2 play three major scales3 develop a repertoire of music that increases in difficulty4 identify specific notes on the keyboard5 demonstrate proper techniqueTextbooks:Palmer A. Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano BookLevel 1, Alfred Publishing co., IncCourse Requirements:1 Practice: A minimum of two (2) hours of practice per week is necessary to accomplish any measure of success. The more you practice the more points you will receive toward your grade. Students will keep track of their practice time and report weekly.3 hours (A)2 1/2 hours (B) 2 hours (C)1 hour (D)Less than 1 hour (F)2 Written Quiz: there will be a quiz on Wednesday, February 2nd.This quiz will cover general piano knowledge that has been covered during class.3. Scale Quizzes: There will be 3 practical quizzes. In these quizzes the student will be expected to play the proscribed scale (C major, G major, orD major) hands together, two octaves. There is no speed Requirement. The student may go at whatever pace he/she desires as long as each note is played with the correct fingering.4. Final Exam: The final exam will be held during final exam week (5 /4-5/10)The student will be required to play two songs. One song willBe “When the Saints Go Marching In;” the other will be assignedby the teacher. Not all students will be assigned the same song. Grading Criteria:Practice: 40%Written Quiz: 5 %Scale Quizzes: 30 %Final Exams: 25% Policies:Attendance: Please refer to the Student Handbook for Zion Bible College’s policy concerning absences, tardiness and consequences of excessive absenteeism; each student will be held accountable to be present and to keep record of his/her own absences or tardiness.Examinations: Students must be present on the day an examination is given. No creditWill be given for examination not made up within the term outlined in the Student Handbook.
