KINDERGARTEN UPDATE

Last Friday, the Year 6 “Buddies” completed their two weeks of lunch and recess support for Kindergarten.

This has been a very valuable experience and Year 6 now has a better understanding of the hard work involved in looking after little children!

Starting this week, Kindergarten children will come down to lunch and recess independently and be supervised by duty teachers, as with the rest of the school.

A reminder that for this week and next week, Kindergarten will continue to finish at 2.30pm each day. However, the week beginning 1st March, Kindergarten children stay until 3.00pm, as with the rest of the school. Please make any childcare adjustments necessary to accommodate the change.

Kind regards

Keri G Handley

Assistant Principal K-2

LUNAR NEW YEAR 4708

THE YEAR OF THE TIGER

Xin Nian, the Chinese New Year, is also known as Chun Jie, the Spring Festival. The festivities continue for 15 days. People wear red clothes, give children ‘lucky money’ in red envelopes and set off fireworks to drive away evil spriits. Red symbolises fire, which the Chinese believe drives away bad luck. Family members gather at each other’s homes for celebratory meals.

Solnal, the Korean New Year, focuses on the family and good friends. Celebrations last three days. Children put on new traditional clothes and kneel and bow to their ancestors and elders. Family members wish each other prosperity and good fortune and exchange gifts. Children receive lucky money, sweets and fruit from their elders. In parts of Korea, people usher in the New Year with loud drums and gongs to scare off the evil spirits of the old year. At the end of the day, friends and relatives join together for dinner to renew their friendship.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Parent Information Evening

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our parent information evening. If you require any further information or clarification please contact your class teacher. Parents can always request a meeting with their child’s teacher by a note to the teacher or by contacting the school office if they wish to discuss issues relating to their child regarding class matters.

Swimming Carnival

Last week I mentioned the great contribution of students and staff towards making the swimming carnival the success it was. Thanks also to Mrs Judd for printing all the certificates and handing out the ribbons.

House Captains

The House Captains and Vice Captains finally received their badges on Friday. These are important leadership roles in our school and I congratulate all of our Captains and Vice captains.

LIMS

LIMS stands for Leadership in the Middle School and is a program designed to develop leadership skills, team building, problem solving and values for students in Years 5 and 6. Our senior students were involved in a two day program where they participated in many fun activities.

Our Stage 3 teachers put hours of work into this program and I thank them for the effort that they put in. The children did some amazing things and I am sure they enjoyed their two days and benefited from the activities.

Regards

Graeme McLeod
