Brightness / Contrast and Hue & Saturation work with sliders that allow you to see the effect of increasing or decreasing these propertiesLevels allows you to work with the light and dark pixels in your images independently of each other (for example you can make the dark pixels darker or lighter without affecting the rest of your image). Levels can be adjusted through a graph showing the distribution of dark to light pixels or Autolevels will attempt to balance the image for you. 394398542672000LayersAs you add more text, copy and paste other images in or add shapes to your original image each of these new elements gets placed into its own layer. These can be seen in the Layers panel on the right of the screen.Imagine the layers as a stack (images, text etc.) one on top of the other, this can be seen in the layer panel. In your image on the main area you are looking at this stack from the top, bear this in mind when you are manipulating the various elements of your image.46570908255000Moving layersTo move a layer, select the layer in the layers panelSelect the Move tool from the tool box and click and drag to reposition the layerResizing layersMake sure that the layer is selected and then choose Edit > Free transformDrag the handles of the box surrounding the layer to resize, press the shift key while dragging to constrain the proportions of the layer (make sure it doesn’t squash or stretch)Filters, effects and undoYou can apply a variety of effects and filters to your image by going to Filter option in the main menu. There are too many filters here to deal with all of them individually here but two of the most useful ones are:Unsharp Mask – This will help sharpen up an image which appears blurry, this can happen when you reduce the image by a large amount.Gaussian Blur – A blur tool with lots of control over the amount of blur taking effect. You can experiment with filters; apply them, see what they look like on your image and then select Edit – Undo to remove the effect and try another one out.File formats, compression and saving for the webPixlr provides several file formats for you to save as for most of your needs a JPG format will be most suitable. See below for more details.JPG – Smallest file size and most widely compatible. Possibility of artefacts appearing if the image is opened edited saved repeatedly. Doesn’t support transparency.PNG – Not as small in file size as JPG and almost as widely compatible. No loss of quality with multiple saves and supports transparency.PXD – Pixlr’s own file format. The only use for this is if you have an image with layers, transparency etc. and you want to retain this for future editing. Only compatible with Pixlr399732566421000Note: in most cases, editing images for the web or to include in a Word or PowerPoint document you won’t need more than the longest edge (depends on whether its portrait or landscape) to be much more than 600 pixels.Zoom in and outTo Zoom in and out of a picture use the Navigator panel on the upper right hand of the screen 425196028067000Clone ToolYou can copy (clone) one area of an image over another, this is good for removing unwanted elements from an image such a scratches or a bird in the sky. Select the Clone Tool from the main tools panel To use hold the Ctrl key down (the cursor will change) click on the area of your image you want to copy (clone) from then release the Ctrl key. Now paint on the area of your image you want to copy (clone) over. ................
