We will discuss what the five senses are and the body parts associated with them using a labeled Mr. Potato poster. We will focus on our sense of sight. What body part helps us see? How many eyes do we have?Writing- Encourage students to draw eyes and practice writing the word eyes. Art- Encourage children to draw different things they see in the classroom/home. When finished encourage students to label at least one picture that they drew. Literacy- Our special letter of the week: /a/. They will use books to identify words that begin with our special letter.Dramatic Play- Create an eye chart and encourage students to examine their eyes by looking at the eye chart.Math- Sorting by color using manipulatives (fruits/worms)Science- What is a magnifying glass? Provide different items such as acorns, leaves, seeds and encourage students to view the items and report what they see by drawing pictures. Blocks- Encourage students to build the buildings they see when they are outside or build a building using a visual. Art- Creating favorite color apple (Students will choose their favorite color apple and create an apple craft. Student will rip the construction paper (incorporating fine motor skills) to fill in the small paper plate to create the apple. Literacy- Our special letter of the week: /a/. Children will attempt to trace the letter and decorate it. Dramatic Play- Encourage students to go apple picking. Use a basket, apples, and trees and encourage students to pick apples from the apple orchard. Math- Same/different apple sorting (use red, green, and yellow circles or stickers to substitute for the pom poms at home)Science- Using a mirror have students identify body parts and then have them identify what is the function of the body part.Blocks- Encourage students to create an apple orchard. Tuesday 10/6Story & Discussion: Use the picture on the poster to share a visual of the story that you are discussing with students for this week. This week’s story is about Alex and that he needs to watch and listen to the teacher so that he will know what to do to make his art. Wednesday 10/7Skill Building Activity #1: Play Eye-Spy Activity with different objects ask about the shape or color of the objects, encourage students to be using their attention scopes. Thursday 10/8Skill Building Activity #2: Guess what’s missing activity. Have 3 different object to place on table have, name the objects with or for the students then have students use their attention scopes as you go through the items on the table. Then have students cover their eyes and while they do remove one of the objects. Then ask students to put their attention scopes back on and help you figure out what is missing. (For students that do not have the language skills you can have pictures of the objects for them to point to the picture of the one that is missing out of a field of 3 pictures). Object ideas: scissors, glue, crayon, toy car, toy cup, and blocks.
