SAMPLE PRESS RELEASES

If you are part of a guild or group or own a yarn or weaving store, publicizing an I Love Yarn Day event, such as a flash mob, will attract new people and build awareness for your group or store. Here are some tips for writing a press release.

At the top of every press release, you should have the following information:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Your name

Your phone number

Your E-mail

In the sample releases below, you’ll see the recommended heading and text formatting. If you are not the contact person on the release, be sure it is someone who can provide all the details about the flash mob or other event to reporters or to anyone else who might call or e-mail. Send your release to local newspapers, community shoppers, as well as clubs and organizations.

Following are suggested headlines and copy. What you are aiming to do is make the headline as “catchy” as possible. To personalize, highlight the text that you like, then copy and paste it into a Word document, adding specifics about your group or store in the release. Remember, with any release the most important information to convey is: Who, What, When, Where and Why!
