Looking at the image of a healthy tooth and the last image showing tooth decay and ask the class about what happens during the process of tooth decay. You can then recap on the tooth decay process. Step 1: Inform that when we frequently eat sugary food, bacteria feed on the sugarStep 2: When the bacteria eat sugar, they make acid which attacks the tooth surface (enamel).Step 3: If this happens frequently, our tooth will get a hole in it,?which is called ‘tooth decay’. Eventually the hole could get so big that the tooth would have to be taken out.Ask the class to fill the clouds with correct answers on how to keep our teeth healthy and on healthy eating. Ask the class again how we can prevent tooth decay. Reveal the answers and discuss with them using the corresponding images.ReferencesThe basic structure of the presentation has been adapted from the Oral Health Foundation “Dental Buddy” teaching resources. Doncaster already has a character known as Mole-R which has been designed and developed by a local graphic artist Ben Bonser (Hilltop Community Centre). The development of the character Mole-R is a local initiative supported by Doncaster Public Health and Edlington Collaborative members to improve the oral health of children locally.
