FALL SEMESTER FINAL PROJECT

SAILING THE WORLD

For the final project in World Geography you will sail around the world. In your adventure you will stop in many places, meet many people and explore Cultures and Sustainable Practices.

Final Goal: A detailed ship log and Story Map Journal that explains your route, where you have traveled, what you have experienced and learned, people you have met, the struggles on the sea, etc.

Day 1 (Thursday, Dec.7.2016)

On your first day you will:

• You will decide the route you will travel and the continents, countries, cities, and land that you will explore.

• You will be given time during class to work on and complete this part of the project.

• You will be given worksheets the completion of which will enable you to fill out your logbook (described under requirements). Furthermore, the worksheets will enable you to neatly and thoroughly chart your voyage on a GIS map.

• Research the places that you are traveling to.

• You are required to write journal entries about your voyage and the research will provide the information necessary to create a Story Map Journal. In addition, worksheets will guide you in what to research. In your Story Map Journal you will describe the culture, sustainable practices, the people you meet, the cities you visit, the mountains you climb, etc. BE CREATIVE and explore the world to the most possible extent.

Day 2: (Tuesday, Dec.13.2016)

• You will finalize your logbook and journal entries and create an Story Map Journal that shows how you navigated around the globe and details your excursions on land.

• You will be given time during class to complete the project. But additional time is available on Fit and during lunch.

• Everyone will be required to make a 5-7 minute presentation on their trip during which you will talk about the places you traveled to, the various cultures you encountered, the sustainable efforts, and what you enjoyed most about your trip.

Requirements:

• You are expected to visit at least 8 countries

• You must research at least 3 different countries but should visit several more
