HSAA Track Team Practice Policies

HSAA 2020 Cross Country Team Practice Policies1. Athletes are expected to attend every team practice.A. Missed or late arrival must be coordinated with one of the Coaches. This is a competitive cross country program and missed practices may affect an athlete’s level of participation during meets. Unexcused absences from practice will not be tolerated. B. HSAA expects its athletes to show up to practice on time and ready to go. Chronic tardiness to practice will not be tolerated. Athletes that show up late, not only miss valuable team announcements but proper warm-up.C. Multi-sport athletes are required to coordinate with both team coaches in order to prioritize practices/games/meets. Multi-sport athletes are still able to compete at cross country meets if they miss practice due to the other sport’s commitments.2. Athletes are expected to practice at home on days we don’t practice as a team.3. Practice attire must be modest and in good taste. No profanity/obscene print on shirts and no mid-drift shirts allowed. Singlet’s are allowed, under garments should not be visible from the side. Shorts must be worn over running tights/compression/yoga shorts/bicycle shorts. 4. We want to be good stewards of our practice facilities, leave the park in better condition than we find it. We were blessed with being able to use Hoblitzelle, we do obtain a permit without cost. We want to keep the good relationship HSAA Cross Country has with the Plano Park district.A. We do not reserve the pavilion; we will use it if no one else is using it at the time.B. If you bring more than a water bottle to the practice location, you will need to bring it all with you. Nothing can be left at the pavilion during practice. We may not have parents at the pavilion during practice to watch the teams gear.C. The team will stay off of the trails in the woods and avoid the paved path in high traffic areas. Using a paved path to run to one section of the park to another and crossing a path occasionally during a workout is acceptable.5. Parents need to ensure younger siblings stay clear of the practice area during practice. Collisions (between runners and someone crossing the path) generally result in injury. We want to keep everyone healthy!6. Athletes need to stay hydrated during practice. Please bring labeled water bottles. HSAA will provide water for refills. We do have a few spare water bottles just in case an athlete forgets to bring one. We want to make sure the athletes say hydrated 7. Restrooms are available at the park. Please let a coach know if you need to use them. Upon your return you will be required to complete the practice as it was planned even if it means you have to complete it by yourself at the end of practice.8. Weather cancellation. There will be emergency procedures in place in case there is severe weather during practice. Athletes will be notified via email, and messaging on the Sports Engine App by 5:00 pm that practice is cancelled due to weather. We will practice/compete in light rain and snow. We will not practice during severe thunderstorm warnings, and in high temperatures, etc. Heat Index: If we have advance predictions that the Heat Index will be above 104 F at the time of practice, we will cancel so athletes can get out are run before it gets too hot.9.
