5034915-25146000LWB-Steinl at the FAKUMA 2018Elastomer/thermoplast hybrid-injection molding and automationThe injection molding and automation technology manufacturer LWB-Steinl is present for the first time at FAKUMA. In Hall 4 / Stand 4123 the injection molding machine manufacturer LWB-Steinl will present examples of its injection molding machines for processing elastomer and thermoplastic materials. In addition, the LWB Automation, founded in 2017, will be making its trade fair debut. With its new group company, LWB-Steinl expands the range of machines to include handling and finishing solutions. As a testimonial for their integration they present a highly automated production cell for the production of 2-component shaft seals.The Steinl Group has grown from two to eight companies within the last seven years. The first step was taken by Alfred Steinl in 1962 by founding a small mechanical workshop, from which STG (Stamping Technology Company) and Landshuter Werkzeugbau (LWB-Steinl) emerged, in which injection molding machines for rubber processing were built from 1971 onwards. In 2011, the biomaterials development and processing company Biofibre GmbH was added. In 2013, the sealant developer and application machine manufacturer Dreibond was taken over. In 2014, LWB-Steinl became a joint venture partner of URP (United Rubber & Plastic Machinery Ltd) in Langfang, which builds elastomer injection molding machines for the Chinese market. In 2015, LWB-Steinl entered into a cooperation agreement with REMA TIP TOP AG and founded VulcTech GmbH at the Landhut / Altdorf site for the manufacture of repair presses for rubber conveyor belts. In the same year, the Steinl Group took over the Italian Prodicon International Srl. (Development of production of rubber batch-off plants). Against the backdrop of the recently founded LWB-Automation and the steadily growing number of thermoplastic injection molding machines, LWB-Steinl for the first time present their broad vertical machine competence beyond elastomer processing at the FAKUMA 2018 to processors of thermoplastic materials.Vertical machines with gantry and C-frame clamping unitsAt the LWB stand, two examples from the vertical machine program will be the focus of the presentation. Together with a 6-axis robot, they are part of a production plant for producing a rotationally symmetrical plastic / rubber composite part. (Fig.1) Its base made of Vestamid PA 612 + 40% GF is produced on a top-closing C-frame machine type VCRS 500/115 with thermoplast injection unit. The C-frame machines are closing from the top up to 160 T closing and above up to 250 T closing force from below.Machine Two is a VRF 1100/160 gantry frame machine that adds to the inside of the polyamide central body a ring made of EPDM rubber / 70 Shore. The portal frame machines are characterized by a very rigid mold support and offer the best conditions for a low-burr to burr-free molding production. (Fig.2)Offer extended by automation technologyIn 2017, LWB-Steinl expanded its range of competences by automation technology both for elastomer and thermoplastic injection molding applications by founding LWB Automation / Weinheim. The focus is on the handling, processing and testing of molded parts within production cells. The product range extends from demoulding aids and manipulation equipment through modular processing cells to the conception of fully automatic production plants. And not just in combination with LWB-Steinl injection molding machines, but for machines from all manufacturers (Fig.3). Today, the company, still managed by the Steinl family, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of rubber injection molding machines.
