-542925-72517000-6572252730500-26670069850Why Minecraft??Every day, more and more teachers are using the world-building game Minecraft to engage and educate. The game is a true phenomenon and gamers young and old are using it in countless creative ways. You can use it to teach coding, mathematical principles, physics and other STEM subjects as well as a stimulus for English and Humanities subjects. This is game-based learning at its best, harnessing students existing enthusiasm and fascination with Minecraft, for practical, situated learning. What is MinecraftEdu??MinecraftEdu is the collaboration of a small team of educators and programmers from the United States and Finland. We are working with Mojang AB of Sweden, the creators of Minecraft, to make the game affordable and accessible to schools everywhere. We have also created a suite of tools that make it easy to unlock the power of Minecraft in YOUR classroom. What are the educational benefits?Minecraft can have huge educational benefits for children; it can enhance the teaching of numerous subjects both with and without adult involvement. Learning in Minecraft can be more engaging than traditional methods of education, with children more motivated, getting more practical experience, and feeling that what they are learning is useful.Minecraft is designed from the ground up to be open-ended and modifiable, allowing it to be tailored for YOUR curriculum. Minecraft can support your goals whether you are teaching to Core Standards, allowing your students to an opportunity for creative expression, or anything in between. The game is being used to teach more than just computer skills. It easily lends itself to science, technology, engineering and maths explorations (STEM). But beyond that, language teachers are strengthening communication skills, Humanities teachers are exploring how societies function, and history teachers are having their students recreate ancient civilizations. It is not an exaggeration to say that the only limit is imagination!?What’s happening for schools between 9-13 June 2014?Civica have organised for the Minecraft EDU team to come to South Yorkshire and deliver five days of training and workshops for staff and students. Five lucky schools can book one day each at a cost of ?500. The day will include half a day’s training on using the Minecraft EDU mod with students and half a day of workshops for staff and their students on Minecraft. All training will take place in YOUR school—no need to book coaches, arrange travel or have staff and students out of school.?PTO00Why Minecraft??Every day, more and more teachers are using the world-building game Minecraft to engage and educate.
