Instructor Experience

This guide is not meant to be a training resource, but rather a simple path for demonstrating various features of BrainHoney. To start this process, login with the following user credentials:

Username: teacher Password: password

There are an additional 2 teachers to play with. These are teacher2 and teacher3. All have a password of `password'. Each teacher has slightly different rights in various sections which give them different capabilities on BH.

Below is the home screen of the instructor.

B Home is the base page for any instructor. The menu allows for:

? Syllabus: creating a new course with "Teach the Course" wizard and edit existing courses ? Gradebook: access to all gradebooks the user has grading rights in ? Objectives: shows objective mastery based upon grades on assignments and assessments ? View: allows user to view any course they are working in as well enrolled as a student in ? Grades: only shows when the user is enrolled in a course as a student ? Communicate: allows user to create emails and announcements

C To-Do List shows all the items that need instructor attention. This dropdown allows the instructor to narrow the list

down to a specific section.

D To-Do Search allows the instructor to enter any information, such as student name, assignment name, course name,

etc which will narrow the list down to a specific selection.

E Summary details are passed along to the administration. It tracks the number of students, the instructor's response

time to grade submitted items, class pace, and class performance.

F Sections show all the sections the instructor has access to. The short cuts links are the same as using the menus. G Critical Students show all the students that are falling behind in either pace or performance. More information

below.

Grading via the Dashboard (One click grading)

An extremely fast way to grade student submissions; simply click on an item in the dashboard To-Do list opens the grading window. Search for Jennica.

B To-Do List shows all the items that need instructor attention. This dropdown allows the instructor to narrow the list

down to a specific section.

C To-Do Search allows the instructor to enter any information, such as student name, assignment name, course name,

etc which will narrow the list down to a specific selection.

D One click grading opens the grading window immediately for submission of grades and comments. E Submission Summary gives the instructor information as well as links back to the actual item so that the teacher can

refresh the memory on what the assignment is.

F Grading options allow for full credit, no credit, or clear existing credit. Anything less than full credit can be added

directly in the edit box. History shows information about this and prior submissions.

G Document Submissions would be available here for downloading. Clicking the green plus allows the instructor to

return a document to the student.

B Notes provide a way for the instructor to send their comments back to the student. "Notes to self" are private notes

about the submission and are not shared with the student.

C Submit becomes active as soon as a score is given. Clicking returns the score and comments to the student. D Continue Later saves the comments and grades, but does not return the grade to the student. E Excuse removes this assignment or assessment from the grading algorithm. F Allow Retry returns the grade and comments to the student but allows for a re-submission if the student elects to

do so.

G Skip simply skips this item in the To-Do list and moves to the next item. H Clicking the Dashboard closes the grading window and returns to the homepage.

Critical Student list

Shows students that are trending in a negative direction. Currently this includes formative assessments and categories with a 0 weight. This places students on this list that shouldn't be. Development is fixing this. Use Roberts, Jennica.

B e-Mail provides a very fast way to send a note to a student. C Progress shows in three different colors:

? green indicates the student has passing scores ? yellow indicates 1 of the last 5 scores is below mastery ? red indicates 2 of the last 5 scores are below mastery

D Pacing shows in three different colors:

? green indicates the student is on pace ? yellow indicates that some submissions have been late ? red indicates that many submissions have been late

E Clicking on Jennica will open the student grade page where information can be reviewed.

B Review the grades for issues. C Review Class statistics and history D Add additional notes for the student and notes not visible to the student. E Submit those notes or Allow Retry directly from here.

Good example of data driven decisions making provided by BH. Present the data and then act on it.
