Graphing Points on the Coordinate Plane Performance Task
Name: _____________________________________________ Date: __________________You love math so much that you have programmed your computer so that your password requires you to graph points on a coordinate plane in a specific order in order to access the computer. Your challenge is to create a picture of a familiar shape or figure on the coordinate plane using coordinate points that will be the password d to your computer. Like any password, there are rules! Your password must consist of a minimum of 10 different points, but no more than 25 points! You must include at least one point in each of the four quadrants. You will submit a copy of the ordered pairs graphed and connected on the coordinate plane. On a separate sheet of notebook paper, you will make a list of these points, in the order in which they are to be connected on the coordinate plane. If you need to break the connection of the points (i.e. lift your pencil to start somewhere else), write STOP where this break occurs in your list of ordered pairs. Keep in mind that if you need to connect your last point to the first point, you will need to list the first point again.Then, write a well-written e-mail to your best friend giving instructions on what he/she must do to get into your computer. Your e-mail must include the words ordered pair, quadrant, and coordinate plane, and these terms must be used correctly. Your e-mail should be a minimum of five sentences in length and must either be typed or handwritten neatly on lined paper. Paper clip your list of ordered pairs, graph paper with your ordered pairs graphed and connected, and your e-mail to the scoring rubric.
