First kiss - Celebrating Home Deb Murray

Bridal Shower Games

First Kiss

Everyone remembers their first kiss. The bride should start by telling the story of the first time she and her fiance kissed. Each guest can then tell their story of their first kiss with their husband or boyfriend. If there are younger guests, they can tell a story of how they imagine that their first kiss will be like. Everyone can vote on the most romantic story and the funniest!

Hanging Out To Dry

Each visitor is given a clothespin upon arrival to shower. They are told of two words they can not mention (i.e. "wedding", and the groom's name). If they do, they lose their clothespin(s) to the one who caught them mentioning the forbidden words. The one who has the most clothespins at the end of the day, wins the prize!

Hit the Target

This is a partner game. One person holds a roll of toilet paper between the knees. The other person holds a broom or stick between the knees while their eyes are covered or blindfolded.

The person with the toilet paper grabs their partner’s hands and guides them to getting the stick in the hole of the toilet paper. The partners who does it in the fastest time wins. This can be done one at a time or pair up the partners to see who wins first.

Famous T.V. Couples

Write down the last names of at least 20 famous TV couples, and your friends and family have to put in the first names. Give only about 5 minutes to guess the names. Then, read the first names and the TV show that they were from. it's a fun game to play. Whoever gets the most correct answers wins the game.

Bridal Bingo

Make "Bingo Cards" with 25 empty spaces (5 across, 5 down). Have the guests write in the gifts that they think the bride-to-be will receive. As she opens her presents, mark off any of the presents written down. As soon as someone has "5 in a row," shout "BINGO!

The Bell Game

Each guest that comes to the shower gets a small liberty bell on a ribbon necklace. They wear the necklace until taken away by another guest. You lose your necklace by saying the bride’s or groom’s name. You may only refer to them as the "bride" or the "groom." The guest with the most bell necklaces wins.

Hunk-in-a-Balloon

You take a total of 25 balloons, [more or less depending on the amount of guests that arrive] and put either a picture and/or description of a man inside the balloon. After the balloons have been blown up and passed around, each lady pops her balloon with a provided pin. The lady who finds the hunk or groom is the winner!

Scrambled Words

Make a list of several words associated with weddings (i.e. marriage, husband, wife, bridesmaid, groom, bride, honeymoon) and then scramble them. Give the guests 2-3 minutes to try to figure them out. The guest that figures out the most correctly wins the prize.

How Well do You Know the Bride?

Have pre-printed paper with different questions about the bride, etc What is the brides favorite color, What does the bride plan to name her first child, what size does she wear? Pass the paper out to the guests and set a time limit whoever gets the most correct is the winner.

Match Them

Cut out pictures from the local paper of couples celebrating their 50th (etc.) anniversaries. Usually alongside the picture is their wedding picture. Mix them up and have the guests guess then and now.

Pass the corsage

Each guest that comes to the shower gets a corsage. They should wear the corsage until taken away by another guest. You lose you corsage by saying "bride" or "groom". The guest with the most corsages wins.

Stick it!

When everyone is seated you pass out stickers to each guest. After everyone has a sticker on her shirt the game begins. Nobody is allowed to say the bride’s name or cross their legs or ankles. The person catching another person doing that gets her sticker. The person with the most stickers wins.

Make up the Bride

Get a variety of colors of cosmetics, (bright reds, greens, purples, the louder and bolder the color, the better). Ask for volunteers. Have the bride sit in the middle of the room. Have the volunteer choose a cosmetic. Blindfold the volunteer. Blindfolded volunteers are to "make-up" the bride. Then, the bride and make-up artists pose for a photo. This gets absolutely hilarious.

Draw a Bride

Give each guest a blank sheet of paper and pass out crayons to all. Have them place paper on their head and draw the bride in her wedding gown. Pass around and share with each other. The bride picks the best and has all to keep for her scrap book. Make sure everyone puts their name on the paper.

Bride Bingo

Ahead of time prepare bingo boards or cover ones you have with the letters “BRIDE” for the letters BINGO. If you use prepared ones, call numbers to find winners. But for real fun, hand the guests empty boards to which they add words related to showers, weddings, honeymoons i.e. cake, garter, wine, champagne, ring, minister or priest, bouquet, bride, groom, caterer, rehearsal dinner... Then, call off the names so people can mark their cards. Winners win just like BINGO.

Wedding Scramble

Write down as many words associated with a wedding. Then, on another piece of paper scramble up the words that you thought of. Give everyone a paper with the scrambled up words on them. Give them 3 minutes to figure out the words. Whoever has figured out the most words is the winner.

Smell the herbs

Take 10 styrofoam cups and fill them with 10 different herbs. Place aluminum foil over the top with a small hole in the center. Pass around the cups and let everyone smell the herbs (no peeking) and whoever gets the most right wins.

Can You Blow

Purchase round balloons (8 inch rounds work best). Poke holes with a pin in one before the party. Place the pierced balloon strategically so the bride selects it when you pass them out or hand the balloons out so the bride receives the pierced one. Instruct your guests that the person who blows up the balloon till it explodes wins. In the meantime the bride can't seem to blow up her balloon at all. It's a lot of fun to watch as the brides realizes she’s been had.

The Bride's Dream House

In this game, everyone gets a paper plate and a pen/pencil. You put the plate on top of your head and have to draw the bride's dream house. Ehen everyone is done the bride picks the one she likes best and whoever drew it wins.

Name that Bride

Cut out the faces of the brides in bridal magazine pictures and replace them with the faces of celebrities (popular and not-so-popular). Pass them around and have everyone write down their answers/guesses. The person or persons with the most correct answers wins a prize.

Flying Wishes

I rented a helium tank to fill 100 balloons for my best friend's bridal shower. (I saved enough empty balloons to give to each one of the guests.) I had each of the guests write a special wedding wish or promise to the bride and groom, allowing the bride a chance to read each one.

Everyone then folded their papers and put them in the flat balloon, which could be filled with the helium left in the tank, and tied with a ribbon. As a group we let them go into the air. Nearly every women wanted to cry...Definitely hit a strong cord. People watched until they couldn't see the balloons anymore. It was really cool.

The Ice Breaker

This is a good start to the shower if you have a lot of guests that don't know each other. Have each guest stand up and say their first name along with something they love corresponding with the first letter in their name. For example, "My name is Tina and I love tulips." The next guest then has to stand up and say "My name is Cori and I love cupids, and her name is Tina and she loves tulips." Needless to say it gets quite confusing but I guarantee everyone will remember everyone else’s name!!

Cotton Ball Game

Each guest who participates is blindfolded. Cotton balls are spread on the floor. The guest is given a large plastic spoon and a bowl. The object of the Cotton ball Game is to pick up as many cotton balls with a spoon and put them in the bowl while blindfolded. The guests are given 1 minute. The guests who picks up the most gets a prize. *The game works best with small groups because the Cotton Ball Game is a one person game, however the game can be played as teams.

How well does the Bride know the Groom?

Ask the groom 20 or so questions about himself. At the shower, have everyone ask how well they think the bride knows her groom. Have them write down how many of the questions they think she will get right. Some question ideas are: "What was his first pet and its name?". "His favorite....music group, color, and so on." "How old was he when.... he had his first kiss, etc."

How well does the Bride know... gum!?

Write individual questions/answers to trivia about the groom on pieces of paper. Have guests take turns asking the bride the questions. Everytime she gets one wrong she has to put a piece of bubble gum (no sticks!) in her mouth. It is pretty funny when she tries answering the last questions with a mouthful of gum and saliva!

What's In the Bag

Before hand, have the host of the bridal shower make up a list of items that any women would have in her purse such as lip stick, cell phone, pens, pictures of family, etc. Assign each item a point value. The person with the most points wins the game.

Skirt Tails

As the guests arrive you hand out to them one clothes pin per person. (a cute idea is to decorate wooden pins with names or pictures) Whenever they get it, you pin it to your skirt tail or the bottom of your pants leg. You are not allowed to cross your ankles or legs. If you are caught with any of the two crossed the person who notices it runs over and takes your pin. The person with the most pins wins the prize to give to the bride. This is a fun game to play and it really breaks the ice. After the shower is over all of the decorative pins are given to the bride. Some pins may even have her name/his name and even the date on them. It is a very interesting way for her to look back on her shower and it brings back smiles. You will be surprised how some women get aggressive about getting the most pins.

Design the Bride's Dress

In groups of four, one person is the model and the other three are the designers. They design a dress that they think the bride would like. When everyone is done, the bride picks the one she likes best and that group is the winner. Depending on how many people are at the shower, you can show them to the bride in a fashion show style.

Memory Game

Prior to the guests arrival, pin as many newly purchased kitchen/cooking utensils/gadgets (ie: measuring spoons, can opener, small spatula, potato peeler, garlic press) that will fit onto an apron with bib or vest, front & back. Have the bride don the vest or apron (with bib) and let the guests view it for 2-3min's. Have the bride remove the vest/apron &/or retreat to another location. Give the guests a pencil/pen & paper & the person who recalls the most items/correctly wins!! The newly purchased items on the vest/apron then become a gift to the bride!

Advice for the Bride

Cut construction paper into small heart shapes and attach pipe cleaner. Hand all of the guests a heart with a pen and ask them to write "advice for the bride" example, "never go to bed together mad." Place completed hearts in a vase and ask the bride to read them out loud. This is a great keepsake for the bride.

I NEVER

The first person starts out with a true statement (I never kissed before) and anyone that has done whatever the person says has to throw in (pennies, candies, or you have the people eat candies starting out with 10 or whatever you decide to use). The person with the most items left wins. It's a funny game!

Take It Off

Give every guest a paper bag, and make them put it over their head. The host then tells everyone to remove one article, (watch, shoe, jewelry, etc.) the smart ones will just remove the bag, while less fortunate one keep removing clothes till the last one realizes everyone is watching her strip.

The apron game

Buy an apron and have the bridal party buy lots of utensils to pin on the apron. Make them practical and a couple of things they would never think of buying until they need them. Pin all of the items on the apron. Have the bride wear the apron in front of all of the guests. Have her walk around the room for about 2 minutes. Then have the bride go into another room and have the guests try to list as many things as they can remember seeing pinned to the brides apron. The person with the most wins! Then tell the bride she gets to keep the apron!!

Pass the Bouquet

Take a bridal bouquet along with a CD (love song collection). As long as the music is playing, the party guests should pass the bouquet around until the music stops. The person with the bouquet when the music stops takes a seat. The last person standing is the winner.

Toilet Paper Bride

Each table recieves a roll of toilet paper. Then, announce that each table must choose a "bride." preferably small in size, like a child. Then, tell the guests they must use the toilet paper, and ONLY the toilet paper to give their "bride" a dress. The real bride then chooses the table with the prettiest dress, and the winning bride gets a prize.

Know the Groom

Have the groom and 3 or 4 males come to the shower for a few minutes. Blindfold the bride, have the guys roll up their pants to the knee, the bride must feel each leg until she can tell who is her man. Very funny.

Creating the veil

Collect veil material, ribbon, thread, flowers etc. ahead of time and make enough sets for the number of people who are attending the shower. Each will create a veil for the bride in a given period of time. Have someone else judge which is the most creative, prettiest, wildest etc. Prizes are nice. Have the bride model each as they are judged.

Secret Word

When each guest arrives have a board with your secret word hidden on it and let them know that whoever is the first to use the secret word to the bride is the winner. Example - secret word is “nervous.” If someone asks her if she’s nervous then she is the winner.

Truth and Tear

After you have the attention of the guests, you show them a roll of toilet paper, and walk around to each person and have them be truthful and tear off the amount of paper they use during one bathroom visit. The ladies at this point get shy so everyone takes a different amount as all eyes watch! After each person has a wad of paper, tell them all to be making anything out of the paper that has anything to do with a wedding, the best finished product wins a gift! I made a pillow with two rings on it, but my daughter won with her thong panties she so cutely crafted! This is fun! Everyone can be making something as the "Bride-to-be" is opening her gifts.

Video Greeting Card

Set up a video camera, ready to record, in a quieter room of the house or shower location. Instruct each of the guests to sit in a designated chair with the camera already focused on that particular spot. When the guest is ready, she (or he) can push the "record" button (or have someone else push it) and record a personal "video greeting" for the bride, giving advice, wishing her well, etc. When finished, they just stop the recording and leave it for the next guest. The host can then give the video to the bride for a keepsake. (The newer video cameras usually come with remote controls, so the guest can "record" from the "hot seat!")

Guess what I am

Pick 5 or 6 food items and write down the ingredients from them. Read the ingredients out loud to the guest. Whoever guesses the most products wins.

Honeymoon Adventure

When the bride is opening the presents for the shower, have someone discretely jot down the phrases she says. For example, "oh...this is wonderful," or "oh, this is so big!", or "I've never seen this before." Then you take all these phrases and put into phrases or like a story of how their honeymoon is going to go. This is the funniest thing I have ever seen, and everyone can't help but laugh!!!

Make the Bouquet

Take paper plates and simple things like tissue paper-toilet paper-construction paper - anything that you can "simply" decorate with and tell the guest to make her bouquet for her wedding by sticking everything on the plate together (which is usually a mess). They only have one minute to complete their masterpieces. It's funny.

Then, have the bouquets "judged" and the one that wins is thrown by the bride, and the one that catches it is the "next one to be married" and wins the prize. It is a lot of fun to see what people can create in one minute.

Ultimate Memory Game!!

This one is a sure-fire hit! Tell your guests you're now having a memory game. Do NOT say "memorize what's on the tray". Have the bride or mother of the bride come out with a tray or platter of kitchen utensils and other related items. Have her walk fairly slow around the room to show all the guests what is one the tray, then walk out & stay in another room. Then ask the party guests to grab a notepad and start to write down....what the bride or mother of the bride was wearing! This one will bring a few moans, but it's fun & the ultimate test of memory! It works best as the first game. The one with the most correct answers (types of clothing, colors, etc.), is the winner.

Best Advice

Whatever the bride and groom’s name are write the letters down on a piece of plain paper (or print the letters on a computer for neatness) i.e. Tommy and Roberta. The guests write advice for the couple with 1-2 words for each letter. The bride-to-be chooses the best advice as she reads them out loud.

Variations:

You can also do this game to make the best poem instead of advice. If playing this game for a bachelorette party, you can have lots of fun making some kinky advice. As a bonus, the bride gets embarrassed reading these out loud.

Bridal Pictionary

Write down as many names of things associated with weddings and brides on slips of paper. Put the slips into a bag. Divide all of the guests into two teams. One person from each team gets a chance to draw the word on a slip of paper pulled out of the bag, and the team must guess what is being drawn in one minute. If the team drawing doesn't guess the word, the other team gets one minute to guess it. As they guess correctly, each team gets a point. The winning team with the most correct guesses wins the prizes.

Mad Libs

Write a story directed at the bride. Start out by writing "We have gathered together today (Brides Name,) to congratulate you and send you our ________est wishes on your upcoming marriage". From this point on, be creative and write a story leaving blanks along the way to be filled in, i.e.; noun, verb, adjective, scent, food, etc. Number the blanks. Bring the response cards to the shower, and ask each guest to write on the back of the card, a noun, verb, etc. Fill in the blanks, as you collect the cards back, and have the bride read the story during the party. Your guests and the bride will laugh so hard that there will be tears rolling down their cheeks! ENJOY!!!!

Soap Opera Story

Go around the room & verbally give everyone a # and ask them to write down their # & the answer to the below questions beside it. After you have done all 25, you or the Bride-to-be will read the story & they fill in the blanks with their answers as you go.
