President's Message: State of the Association
by Rosanne Warner, NYSSA President 315-697-8130 president@
Hoping you all had a Happy Memorial Day!! Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty and a thank you to all of our Veterans for all they have done to keep us safe. Thank you for your service to our country.
Did You Know??? Active Service members are given free Club/NYSSA membership. If you are active military, contact your club membership administrator for your free membership.
With the weather being rainy and gloomy, I hope that the weather breaks and that you will enjoy your other recreational vehicles to the fullest. With this lousy weather, we haven't un-winterized our camper yet, but we did go to camp to find that the black flies are living large and the mosquitoes were abundant from stagnant water in the woods. Just a word to the wise, don't try raking your campsite without long sleeves, a head net and stock in bug spray. Even though snowmobiling is probably pretty far from your mind, the clubs are still working and they are busy finalizing the Phase I process of submitting their GIS mapping, new trail requests and reroutes to the state. The clubs will have to complete the second phase of the grants over the summer, which is due to the state in mid-August. For the clubs, it's a year-round dedication and we thank them all for their hard work. Next week, I will be traveling to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the Northeast Chapter and United Snowmobile Alliance meetings. The hot topic at both organizations has been fatality rates across North America. We have compiled some preliminary data and I'm sure there will be more discussions about how to get the statistics down. There are a lot of other issues that will be discussed including something we all face - Keeping trails open. These meetings are a great collaboration and we always learn so much from the other state associations and Canadian Provinces. Have a fun and safe summer, everyone !!
Rosanne
