By linking learning, the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help our students achieve the state’s high standards for the school year.We will support learning in the following ways:StaffResponsibilitiesParent/FamilyResponsibilitiesStudentResponsibilitiesCurriculum-High AcademicsAll subject areas; reading, math, science, writing, social studies, health, music, art, PE, and media, are based on Florida Standards. Teachers follow Polk County Learning Maps (see websites below).Have your child at school each day on time, wearing the correct uniform. Encourage your child to read or read to your child for 15-20 minutes each night. Remind your child to “SOAR” with positive behavior. Come to school every day ready to learn & “SOAR” with good choices. Finish homework each night. Read books every day for 15-20 minutes outside of school. Monitoring Student ProgressTeachers monitor student progress through the use of formative and summative assessments throughout the school year, including weekly/unit tests, beginning-middle-end assessments, & standardized assessments in the Spring.Check and sign your child’s agenda and behavior chart each night. Read progress reports, interims, and report cards. Participate in decisions about your child’s education. Ask for help from the school. Utilize local resources, such as the public library, Parent University, Parent Center, and Parent Portal. Give all notes you receive at school to an adult and have them sign your agenda and behavior chart every night. Partnership -Be InvolvedParent-Teacher conferences are typically held before or after school. Parents & teachers may also meet during a teacher’s planning block if arrangements are made in advance.If you are approved to volunteer, please call the school. You are welcome anytime, but please prearrange your visit with teachers. Attend Academic Nights & Parent Workshops during the school year.Always work your hardest and try your best. Remember to “SOAR” every day. Communication -Stay InformedTeachers provide materials and information to help parents improve their child’s achievement. Communication is via email, phone calls, texting, student agendas, weekly/monthly newsletters, Elbert website, and marquee. Contact your child’s teacher by phone (between 7:45- 8:00 or 3:15- 3:30). You may also contact teachers by e-mail or student agenda if you have questions or concerns. Please call ahead if you are joining your child for lunch. Ask for help from parents/ guardians, teachers, or other staff members. You can also refer to the media center for extra resources. Learning EnvironmentTeachers use Reading Wonders, Go Math, Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures, Thinking Maps, and EduSmart Science to deliver instruction and increase student achievement, in accordance with the School Improvement Plan. Positive Behavior Support is used in conjunction with Polk County’s Code of Conduct. Give your child support and provide a quiet place to complete homework each night, without distractions such as TV, computer, electronic games, etc. Homework and resources are available at the Parent Center located at Garner Elementary.Always follow classroom & school rules.
