School Compact for Learning

District and School-based Title I Parent and Family Engagement Programs in Polk County Public Schools will strive to BUILD RELATIONSHIPS in order to create real family engagement for every child, every family, every teacher, every day.

This compact outlines how the parents/family, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. By linking learning, the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help our students achieve the state's high standards for the school year.

We will support learning in the following ways;

CurriculumHigh Academics

Staff Responsibilities

*Provide rigorous, relevant instruction based on the Florida Standards and the Polk County Curriculum map at a level which the student can comprehend. *Teachers will set specific learning goals for students.

Parent/Family Responsibilities

*Set specific learning goals for their child's education *Have your child at school and prepared every day. *Participate in grade level appropriate parent meetings. *Provide a time and place conducive for studying at home.

Student Responsibilities

*Participate in education by attending every day, being on time, and studying for classes. *Set goals to prepare for graduation. *Set post-high schools goals.

*Provide progress reports every four weeks as either report cards or interim reports. *Provide Grades to the Parent Portal in a timely manner. *Students will participate in progress monitoring throughout the year to determine learning gains.

*Activities to Build Capacity >Adjusting to 6th grade/9th Grade >Postsecondary plans *Encourage parents to become volunteers. *Parent conferences can be set up by Guidance or teachers. *Emails/ Website/Phone calls *Parent Contact, esp. for D's and F's

Learning Environment

*All members of the Ft. Meade Middle Senior High School community will be shown respect at all times. *Title 1 will provide Parent Workshops to help parents better support their student(s).

*Perform progress checks using the Parent Portal, report cards and interim reports. *Encourage reading for pleasure 15-20 min. each day, without distractions. *Request materials or websites to help students with school work, literacy, and learning. *Attend Activities to Build Capacity programs. *Visit the parent Center at a location near you. *Contact the school to volunteer *Help write the School Improvement Plan and Title 1 Plans *Request Parent Conferences. *Check website and Parent Portal. *Check student report cards and interims. *Participate in decisions about your child's education through MAC, SAC, etc.

*Perform progress checks to assess progress using Student Portal, report cards and interim reports. *Take testing and progress monitoring seriously as it determines placement in classes, programs and postsecondary plans. *Set goals for their grade point average and MS/HS plans. *Actively participate in curricular and extra-curricular activities to increase student achievement. *Serve on committees to help write the School Improvement Plan or SAC Committee. *Talk to counselors and teachers about classes and progress concerns. *Deliver all notices and information you receive at school to an adult. *Request help from teachers / tutors for difficult subjects.
