Poor Jarya - Teaching Made Practical

Poor Jarya

Jarya was exhausted. Her arms hurt from carrying her baby sister around

all day. Her feet hurt from chasing her younger brother Leon, who kept

trying to sneak out of the house. All she wanted to do was lay down and go

to sleep, but she knew she needed to cook dinner for her brother and

sister, so she got to work.

Jarya¡¯s mom had asked Jarya and her twin sister Ulie to watch their

younger siblings while she went to work. They had both agreed to help, but

then Ulie had run off to her friend¡¯s house as soon as their mom was out of

sight. Jarya was left to do all of the work herself. She was so angry at Ulie

that she could hardly stand it. Jarya kept trying to think of some way to get

back at her, like putting a spider in her bed, but she couldn¡¯t think of

anything good. Ulie was the one with a good imagination.

As Jarya was putting her younger brother and sister into bed, Ulie came

running into the house. ¡°I¡¯m so sorry, Jarya!¡± Ulie exclaimed. ¡°I shouldn¡¯t

have left you all alone. I made you something to say I¡¯m sorry.¡± Ulie held

out a small box.

Jarya gasped. It was a beautifully decorated jewelry box that matched the

colors in her room exactly. How had Ulie known that she had been looking

for something to put all her jewelry in? It was just like Ulie to think of

something like that.

¡°Thank you,¡± Jarya said. ¡°It¡¯s stunning. I could never have made anything

like this for myself.¡±

At that moment, their mom walked in. Jarya was torn. Should she tell her

mom that Ulie had left her to do all the work herself? She was still a little

upset that Ulie had left her, but she really loved the beautiful jewelry box.

Ulie made the decision for her.

¡°Mom, I think you should know that Jarya took care of everything herself. I

left her all alone and went to Kayla¡¯s house instead of helping her,¡± Ulie

admitted.

Their mom walked Ulie to the kitchen to talk to her privately, and Jarya

grabbed her new jewelry box and headed to her room to look for a special

spot to keep it.
