CHARITY CLASSIC CAR EVENT ROARS INTO LAKE HAVASU CITY

Annual Run to the Sun Motors Off on October 20 to 24

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (Oct. 11, 2010) – The 33rd annual Run to the Sun car show, cruise and gearhead gathering for autos circa 1972 and older is October 20 through October 24 in Lake Havasu, the city made famous by the London Bridge relocated there in 1971.

The Run to the Sun is a fundraising event held every year by the Relics & Rods Car Club () with all proceeds benefiting local charities. A car show, cruises, sock hop, a Poker Run, swap meet, fashion show, parties, prizes and vendors selling auto accessories will all be a part of the five-day celebration of the American automobile.

The kickoff on Oct. 20 for early arrivals will be a catered party at the host hotel, The Nautical Beachfront Resort ().

Poker Run Planned

Relics & Rods participants can join a Poker Run on Oct. 21 in which cars will leave the Island Inn (a.k.a. The Pink Hotel) and cruise to Havasu 95 Speedway, Havasu Springs, Gene Price Motorsports, and Windsor Auto Sales, picking up one card at each destination. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best hands, and door prizes will be handed out to lucky winners. Thursday Cruise Night starts at 4 p.m. as the main drag, McCulloch Boulevard, is closed off for a parade featuring hundreds of cars.

Sock Hop And Fashion Show

Friday, Oct. 22 features a “Show & Shine” at the adjacent 18-hole Island Golf Course, followed by a performance by local band Pirate at the Nautical Beachfront Resort during the sock hop and banquet.

On Saturday, Oct. 23 a popular fashion show is scheduled, based this year on a Route 66 theme. It’s also day two of the Show & Shine.

Trophies, Prizes and Entrance Details

Beautiful kachina trophies will be handed out on Saturday afternoon, awarded to the top ten vehicles and the winners in each of the 29 classes as selected by other entrants. There will also be trophies and Run to the Sun top ten jackets for vehicles picked by sponsors, members of the community and club officials. Each trophy is handmade by the Navajo Indians in northwest New Mexico and is one of a kind.

Sunday, Oct. 24 features a morning parade on McCulloch Blvd., followed by a pancake breakfast.
