POSITION DESCRIPTIONPOSITION TITLE: Social Media & Marketing Coordinator DEPARTMENT: MarketingJOB TYPE: Full time REPORTS TO: Marketing ManagerPOSITION OVERVIEWThis full-time, entry-level position works within the Marketing department to develop, implement and track all social media campaigns related to Virginia Zoo events and branding efforts. This position will assist the Marketing Manager in creating Zoo content including POP, blogs and other content areas. This position will aide in the development and implementation of all marketing and public relations campaigns. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Promote all Zoo activities through daily social media posts (including Facebook Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and all other platforms determined by the Zoo) and collaborate with Marketing and PR department to represent the digital voice of the Virginia Zoo.Develop and present online and social media marketing plan to Marketing and PR Manager.Monitor and provide analytics on ongoing social media campaigns.Promote Zoo programs through press releases, emails, newsletters, updated website content and printed materials. Develop and draft blog posts for all Zoo departments. Field and respond to all email, Facebook, twitter inquiries in an appropriate timeline. Monitor and update Zoo content on the website to include all areas of the Zoo (including education, events, programs, animal information and horticulture).Assist with the marketing department in the development of online registrations and customer surveys. Establish and maintain editorial calendars, media database and other databases.Maintain an online photo database that is user-friendly.Develop, implement and report program and event evaluation surveys.Review annually and develop written manuals both internal and external while working with the HR department.Perform media escorts when Marketing and PR Manager is unavailable.Assist with other Marketing projects as needed. Create content for internal newsletter that could be distributed to staff.Attend Zoo events as marketing ambassador to photograph and cover in social media.Serve as Zoo ambassador for community events as assigned.Research grant opportunities and assist in the content development and application process. EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESQualified applicants should have a bachelor degree in education, marketing, PR or other communications. Written communication skills – Applicants must be able to write original content and edit existing content down to concise social media postings that are timely, accurate and in synch with the Zoo’s voice and brand.Verbal communication skills – Applicant must be able to speak with large audiences, media and individuals in a professional and concise manner in order to present the Zoo brand.Must be able to meet strict deadlines and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Computer skills – Applicants must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Additional ability to conduct research on the internet and experience with popular and emerging social media platforms is required. Familiarity with WordPress, MailChimp, and SurveyMonkey a plus.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers. Must be able to work a varied schedule to include regular weekends and occasional evenings as needed.
