In the article “The Role of Racial Identity in Responses to Thin Differences Ideals White and Black College Women” was written by Yuki Fujioka, Erin Ryan, Mark Agle, Melissa Legaspi, and Raiza Toohey on the differences of how black and white college women view the media’s thin ideal though a survey. The article surveys about two hundred eight-six black and white college women on how they perceive thinness along with their fear of fat. The article is split into different section to explain how racial identity comes to define where a group view themselves in the media’s ideal of thinness. The article goes deep in the experiment by measuring fear of fat, recording personal endorsements of thinness from a one to seven scale, racial identity, and look at desirable media portrays the participates find attractive. The results after the experiment shows that white women tend to be more affected by the media and find that thinness is very important than their black counterparts. In the article black women find that the thinness concept is more based on white culture than their own because they tend to accept a large body type since black women weigh more than their white counterparts.In this article it talks about the media’s idea of thinness and how it has affected young women which would help me answer my question and give me more feedback. The article is written typically on the black women participates deal with their bodies and how the media is thinks that women’s body image is supposed to be thin and compare them to the white women participates in the survey. Throughout the essay both authors talk about how the survey was based on the differences of black and white women views on their body concerns. The essay is broken into the general information or information, next is the correlation and experimental research and later is the study itself with results and their methods on conducting the experiment. Women & Therapy 34.4 (2011): 345-358 In the article “Black Women's Body Image: An Analysis of Culture-Specific Influences”, written by Karia Kelch-Oliver and Julie R. Ancis is a survey article that talks about the racial differences on body image. The article describes how body image has impacted black and white women and interviewing sixteen black women to get a better look how body image has impacted them. The article talks about how black women tend to be not influenced by these body images compared to white women. The body image of white women tends to be thin which is considered to be attractive in white’s culture and black women seem to be not influence by the concept of a thin body. Body image has led to body dissatisfaction, dieting, and eating disorders in white women more than black women. Black women seem to accept their body more than white women because of ethnic differences. The article highlights the cultural factor of body image that helps define the attitudes towards physical body types for both groups of women. The interview in the survey helps break down how black women view body image and how it has affected them which are strategically place in six themes and eight subthemes on their body image. In the article “Who’s that Girl: Television’s Role in the Body Image Development of Young White and Black Women”, written by Deborah Schooler, L. Monique Ward, Ann Merriwether, and Allison Caruthers is a survey study article that discusses the ethnicity role of body image and how the media has affected the relationship between the television and body image for young women. In the survey we have two group of participates that the survey mentions and analyzes how both groups view thinness as the new body image set by the media and how it effects them. The article is set up with general information and next break down the media influence by perspective and the role of race to better understand the women’s view on their body image. The experiment in the article gives a description of each participate, next goes through their procedures and measurements along with the results of the experiment showing the differences between both groups. The measurements during the experiment are broken down to measure each variable for example body image, television viewing and also are using a scale to access body esteem and along with ethnic identity.This article I am using is helping me prove a point on how women compare themselves sometimes to movie and television stars.Sanders, Jean “Plus-Size Clothing on the Rise” article is telling the retailers that plus-size woman sells had really made a big profit for the clothing industry and saying to them that plus-size women do really count for something in our society, even if they are frowned upon.Lane Bryant begins Cacique lingerie launch (2006).
