Community Assessment Exercise – Demography (10 points possible)

This exercise familiarizes you with some very basic community data that exist online. Just like epidemiology, we use demographic datasets to identify communities at risk, plan interventions for these communities after a thorough community assessment, and evaluate the results of many planned community health interventions over time for defined populations, such as youth.

For this exercise, you will work independently and write your answers independently. You will:

1. Use weblinks to access York County and PA demographic data. The best source is American Fact Finder within the U.S.Census. Google: American Fact Finder. Another site is the PA Department of Health at health.state.pa.us. Go to Health Statistics. Go to Vital Statistics. Search for County Profiles.

2. Answer questions about demographic trends over the last 10 years.

3. Please list your source.

4. Please hand in your work to Professor Bucher on a hard copy when finished.
