See to volunteer.Patricia “Pat” McIntyre, Founder and co-Chair of Tacoma Older LGBT, support group for older LGBT adults in Tacoma and Pierce County, offer training and resources, especially providing care for those who don’t have family network, 50th anniversary of Stonewall Riots that started Pride celebrations.Michelle Kelly-Barroga, Senior Drop-In Coordinator for Oasis Youth Center, a resource and support organization for LGBTQ youth, focus areas are advocacy, leadership, and prevention.Joe Tellez, Chief Technology Officer with TPU, explaining advanced metering infrastructure, customers expect a level of service similar to what they receive from digitally-savvy companies, therefore TPU will modernize meters to collect and report more data, allow monthly billings and safety features, deployment in 2021 (see website for more info)Community Concerns: Rick, regarding Verizon wireless tower at 37th & Sheridan, public comment is closing soon, asking that SENCo request an official neighborhood meeting (allowed) to address concerns around permitting and development standards. Athena recalls the presentation made by project rep in April and related materials. Suzanne motions to request a public meeting in order to give more time for public comment, Tyler second, motion carries.Rick also wants to inform the community about the WSDOT Tacoma/Pierce County HOV Project, specifically the landscaping plan as the project wraps up, concerned about impacts upon neighbors and students of surrounding schools. Areas of evergreen tree buffers have been removed. Requesting support of his formal request for mitigation of trees removed to ensure equitable landscaping buffers. Motion made by Penny, second by Tyler, to have Rick draft a letter for us to sign and send to City Council. Motion passes. Suggestion to put a petition on our website, also letter to City Council on issue.Liaison ReportsCity Manager: Bucoda, tomorrow at study session at noon with Utilities Board on Click! negotiations, July 16 study session at noon with Parks Board on Heidelberg sports complex, July 2 participatory budget discussions begin, Youth Commission board activities are underway. Linda Stewart reports St. Ann’s cleanup had to close early due to church Mass timing, those who were turned away got tickets for free disposal at recovery center. Coffee with the Mayor, July 18 at Bertollinos on S. Union. 30 nuisance cases closed, 4 derelict buildings dealt with in our district. Dakota notes City has taken over maintenance, water and garbage of Gas Station Park. Vision for future of park, draft plans by end of year.TFD: Ray Manglona, fireworks are coming!
