Abstract:

The liaison statement informs both Study Groups 1 and 2 on the activities of the Project MediaCom 2004. The objective of the project is to create a framework for the harmonized and coordinated development of multimedia communication standardization.

ITU-T Study Group 16 wishes to update the Study Groups of the Development Sector on the progress of our Project MediaCom 2004.

The objective of MediaCom- 2004 project is to create a framework for the harmonized and coordinated development of multimedia communication standardization for use across all ITU-T and ITU-R Study Groups, and in close cooperation with other regional and international SDOs and industry forums. The first activities within the project, a joint Workshop with ITU-T SG13 with the themes, MediaCom- 2004 and IP Networking was held on 24-27 April 2001. The presentations and conclusions are available on the ITU web site.

ITU-T SG16 is pleased to confirm that the work on MediaCom 2004 progressed further during our meeting in Brazil, and the latest version of the project document is available on the ITU-T web site.

Taking into account the objectives of the project to create a framework and define a roadmap for the development of global standards, SG16 considers that it is important to cover also the need of the development sector. For this reason, we would welcome any input you would like to include into the database of ITU activities for the project, as well as any specific issues for coordination and cooperation within ITU and with other SDOs.

SG 16 is willing to present information on the MediaCom 2004 project at meetings of the Study Groups of the Development Sector, and is ready to hold joint workshops with the Development Sector in the future.
