| |Phone 416-395-5400 and hear stories in 12 different languages. Stories are available 24 hours a |

|[pic] |day. This is a really useful service for newcomers to Canada who can listen to the stories told |

| |in English as a way for their families to practice their new language skills. Stories are |

| |available in English, French, Cantonese, Gujarati, Italian, Mandarin, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese,|

| |Somali, Tamil and Urdu. |

| |The talented students and teachers at Thorncliffe Park have been sharing their talents and |

| |expertise during the month of April and May. Our students performed beautifully in the “Choral |

| |Project”, the Kindergarten concerts, the Primary and Junior concerts, the folk dances and “Music |

| |Monday”. We are so very proud of our students and staff for their involvement and commitment to |

| |the “arts”. |

| |Volunteer Tea- Thursday, May 27th |

| |Calling all volunteers! Thanks to all the people who volunteer their time and caring to assist our|

| |staff and students. We would like to invite you to our annual recognition tea. Light refreshments |

| |Cricket Update |

|[pic] |House league cricket for grade 5 is well underway. We have over 80 girls and boys participating. |

| |Cricket Team selection has been finalized and the teams are practicing for upcoming tournaments. |

| |The Grade 4 team leads the Grade 5 TDSB School League standings and our other Grade 5 teams are |

| |expected to advance as they defend their titles at the Conference and City championships! Thanks |

| |to Mr. Bryson for organizing the students and the games. Thanks also to the many Thorncliffe staff|

| |that make this possible. |

| |Boys and Girls Soccer |

| |Soccer is well underway this term! The boys team practices before school in the mornings and the |

| |girls practice after school. The girls competed at a tournament at Riverdale East P.S. on May |

| |14th. The boys team will compete at a tournament at the end of the month. Standings will be |

| |announced soon. Thanks to Mr. Offutt and Ms. Magno for giving the students an opportunity to get |

| |involved. |

| |As a cluster school in the Model Schools for Inner Cities initiative, Thorncliffe families have |

| |once again have been given the opportunity to visit Ontario Place at a very low cost. We hope all|

| |families who purchased tickets enjoy their time at Ontario Place on Sunday, May 16th |

| |protective shoes (no bare feet or sandals), avoid riding at dusk or at night, and never carry a |

| |on June 4th. Mr. Offutt, Ms. Jantzi and Ms. Gillespie are proud of the students’ progress! |

| |flexibility. |
