Posting to Craigslist - Listings To Leads

[Pages:2]Posting to Craigslist

Craigslist has recently made changes to their site to discourage over posting. The following information will help you to post your listings to Craigslist effectively while following their increased guidelines.

While Listings-to-Leads has always conformed to Craigslist Terms of Service, Craigslist is definitely going after the spirit of the Terms of Service and their founding of being a website for local people to post local ads to....not a place for companies to post and not a place for people to abuse.

This has affected all vendors and real estate professionals, and all categories including, cars for sale, jobs, etc. You can still post effectively, but you have to understand that Craigslist is enforcing their rules.

Below is the relevant information that you need to know to use Craigslist effectively.

1. You can only post a few ads a day (this can vary a lot depending on the location as all areas are moderated by different people). You will see some people get away with posting more, but the talk on the Craigslist message boards is that they are going after people that over post. ALSO, it seems the more HTML your ads use, the more likely it is you will get caught.

2. The amount of HTML and branding allowed is also a huge red flag. Again, you will see some people get away with posting some ads that seem to use a lot of both, but keep in mind, you don't know how many they are getting ghosted and that Craigslist will be catching them faster.

3. The amount of links in your ads has to be kept to a minimum. We suggest no more than 3 on Craigslist to keep a lower profile. This is actually better for lead generation...join us for a training webinar if you want to know why.

4. The number of total ads allowed per account has gone down. While even the volunteer Help Desk people at Craigslist do not seem to know a hard numerical limit, they are beginning to enforce the spirit of the Terms of Service more than ever.

5. REPOSTING YOUR LISTINGS: After your listing has been posted the first time and you want to repost it (you MUST wait a minimum of 48 hours to do this or your ad will be ghosted and your ad will NOT show up and you will have to wait ANOTHER 48 hours to try again).

Log into Craigslist and delete your ad. When you do this, you are actually just making it inactive. A new option will then appear asking if you want to repost the listing. Click that and your listing will go back to the top of Craigslist. When the listing is no longer being marketed, delete and do not reactivate/repost.

6. You must post to Craigslist from your computer to your own Craigslist account. Craigslist tracks IP addresses, which means they know which computer is posting into an account. More and more 3rd party posting agents (admins and VA's) are being stripped of their ability to post for their clients. We make posting as easy as it can be with the One Click Posting via the Manage Listings Page, L2L Posting Flyer and the Posting Emails.

7. If you are being ghosted, that is, you post your ad and it looks to be live in your Craigslist account but you cannot find it, rehabilitate your account by taking the following steps:

a. Delete all current ads that are not showing up on Craigslist b. Wait 48 Hours c. Start reposting per points 1, 2, 4 and 5 above.

8. Don't just rely on Craigslist for your Lead Generation!
