POST- OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

AFTER EXTRACTION

❖ Emergency number out of our normal working hours, 7-9pm Mon – Fri, 9am-12pm Sat and Sun

07538504039

❖ Following your treatment today there are a few points you need to be aware of. Following these instructions should reduce any problems you might have. If you are at all worried about anything please ask.

❖ IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS....

Avoid any strenuous exercise as this will promote bleeding from the extraction site.

Do not rinse your mouth as this may disturb the clot.

Avoid alcohol and cigarettes - this will reduce the likelihood of any infection.

Take painkillers if necessary e.g., Paracetamol / Ibuprofen.

Avoid Aspirin as this thins the blood and may cause bleeding

If the socket starts to bleed, place bite pack over socket and apply pressure for 10 minutes.

Avoid hot food/drink whilst you are numb.

For children watch that they do not bite themselves whilst the lips are numb.

❖ FROM TOMORROW ONWARDS...

Rinse your mouth after food with a teaspoon of salt in warm water for the next few days.

Continue with painkillers when needed, but keep to recommended dosages.

If bleeding continues after 24 hours, contact the surgery

If pain continues after 3 days, contact the surgery.

It is quite normal for the area where the tooth was to be rough (you are feeling the bone), this usually smooth’s out after a few months healing.

If you have any queries or concerns do not hesitate to contact us on York 706795/706291/703427. After 5pm and at weekends there is an answer machine on with an emergency contact number to the York Emergency Dental Service
