Directions: You (with the option of having a partner) will design an anti-tobacco poster to inform others about the harmful effects of tobacco products. The poster will be your unit assessment for tobacco and will be worth 75 points. Here are your choices:

PART 1:

CHOICE A: You may design a “Counter Marketing” poster using any tobacco advertisement on pages 107-115 in the “Smokescreens” magazine. A counter-marketing poster takes a real advertisement and alters/changes it to make it more realistic. For example, on page 113 a bike rider is riding his bike on top a beautiful mountain scene. We know that a smoker would most likely not be able to do this due to reduced lung capacity. How could you alter this advertisement in AT LEAST 5 WAYS to make it more realistic? Be sure to use your knowledge from the tobacco unit to design your counter-marketing poster.

CHOICE B: You may design a general anti-tobacco poster that focuses on one of the areas discussed in class. The poster will need to include at least 5 facts (either written or pictorial) or statistics based on the topic. Some topics may include (but are not limited to):

~Tobacco and pregnancy

~The various chemicals contained in tobacco smoke

~Second hand smoke

~Chewing tobacco

~A specific disease discussed in class

PART 2:

You (or someone from your group if you are working with another person) will need to give a written explanation of what you did for your poster and why. If you did a counter-marketing poster, give the explanations for the changes you made and why. If you did a general anti-tobacco poster, explain what you did and why you think it is an important topic for people to know about.
