Pirates vs. Ninjas vs. Zombies vs. Robots

This packet is an all out brawl between pirates, ninjas, zombies, and robots.

1) In one part, a woman named Cis does battle in feudal Japan, and in another a man named Dan Davis is freed after breaking his own world record. One segment sees a man using a typewriter to interact with a computer, and that segment begins with a detective saying the line, “a case to end all cases”. The rise of Zero One, a nation populated by machines, is documented in The Second Renaissance, while its first short was produced by the team responsible for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and had the title Final Flight of the Osiris. FTP, identify this series of short films with themes from The Matrix.

ANSWER: The Animatrix

2) Its title comes from a failed poem written for the main character’s friend Tiger Tanaka whose last line is “and once when you look death in the face.” The book with this title, the final installment in the Blofeld Trilogy, sees the main character father a child with Kissy Suzuki while in disguise after losing his memory. The much different screenplay for the film with this name was written by Rolad Dahl and sees a team of ninjas storming a SPECTRE base in a hollow volcano. FTP, identify this 1967 film, the second to last official Bond film starring Sean Connery.

3) He fought a ninja in the fourth season premiere, and other episodes have seen him training in Africa and learning from the Woolies to “jump good”. Almost all of the episode titles in the first two seasons start with his name, except for the three part series premier divided into "The Beginning," "The Future," and "The War" episodes. He hardly speaks, but occasionally teams up with a giant, loudmouthed Scotsman with a gun for a leg. FTP, identify this animated series that appeared on Cartoon Network and which was created by Genndy Tartakovsky, whose title protagonist attempts to travel back in time and defeat the evil Aku.

4) It opens on Skull Island, showing the capture of a creature with a bite so lethal that one of the its capturers has to have his arm cut off to prevent the spread of the infection. When teenagers are being attacked in a graveyard, a priest interferes saying “I kick arse for the Lord” before being killed himself. A mass infection leads to the final scene, which used 300 gallons of blood, where Lionel dispatches his attackers with a lawn mower declaring “Party’s over”. One of the director’s early “splatstick” works, this is, FTP, which Peter Jackson movie about zombies in New Zealand.

5) Their most recent studio album contains a song labeling the band "seven deadly pirates, we're the seven deadly sins" and another track devoted to the famous pirate ship The Queen Anne’s Revenge, while their earlier song, Salty Dog, was mistakenly called “Pirate Song” on Napster before the album it was on was released. Their accordion player, Matt Hensley, is also a professional skateboarder, and Bridget Regan plays the fiddle for this group. Taking their name from the California club where they met and played many of their first shows, FTP, name this group with strong Celtic punk roots, known for albums such as Swagger and Drunken Lullabies.

6) In the first incarnation in which this character appeared, he acquired his skills by mimicking his master closely, and in another version his master was killed due to a love triangle between Tang Shen and Oroku Saki. The arcade game that he appeared in lists him enjoying Heavy Metal and Zen Buddhism, and his most popular incarnation wears a pink outfit and signature white bands on his feet. FTP, identify this one time member of the Foot Clan, also known as Hamato Yoshi, who morphed into an anthropomorphic form of a rat and served as the mentor for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

7) In their last movie, they team up with their neighbor and computer whiz Amanda to foil the evil Medusa, as portrayed by Loni Anderson, with the help of retiring TV star Dave Dragon as they rescue a theme park from her. The only actor to appear in all four movies of this franchise, the last of which was the last film he made due to strokes he suffered that year, was Victor Wong, who played Grandpa Mori, the group’s mentor. FTP, High Noon at Mega Mountain, Knuckle Up and Kick Back were all sequels to this 1992 movie about Samuel, Jeffrey and Michael training to become Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum.

8) In an excellent example of correlation not equaling causation, a document supporting this includes a chart showing that as the number of pirates has decreased from the 1800s global temperatures have increased. It also claims that pirates were really “peace loving explorers and spreaders of good will” and their bad image was propagated by Christian theologians in the Middle Ages. Pirates are “absolute divine beings” and the original members of, FTP, this religion which worships the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

His titanium and Kevlar armor protects him from most weapons except extremely sharp piercing, while his visor is equipped with zooming capabilities and thermal vision. FTP, identify this character, played by Robert John Burke and Peter Weller, the cyborg rebuilt from deceased policeman Alex Murphy.

10) Its DVD contains a special feature where the movie’s plot holes are discussed in a musical song, as well as a deleted scene which sees Dianne surviving the ordeal by climbing a tree. The idea for the movie stemmed from an episode of the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced, and the movie begins with the protagonist getting dumped by his girlfriend Liz after skipping out on their anniversary to play videogames. The title character’s best friend, Ed, is seen in the end of the movie living in the shed after being infected. FTP, identify this 2004 movie called a “rom zom com”, starring Simon Pegg as the title figure who must cluelessly fight off zombies in England.

11) It is full of anachronisms like refrigerators and televisions, and the almost exclusively male cast are bachelors who are tormented by green adversaries. The human characters in it all carry weapons, and Raymond, the dog owned by rival captain Cecilia, walks on two legs and is able to talk with humans. Nate is a giant man with a thick beard, Henry Crow captains the ship that the characters serve on, and the cartoonist himself often appears at his drawing board in the strip. FTP, identify this comic strip by Chip Dunham about a group of cutlass carrying pirates and their dog Louie.

12) Along with his brother Spider One of Powerman 5000, he now owns a record label that has signed acts like The Bomboras. His solo album Hellbilly Deluxe was re-released in 2005 with an accompanying DVD containing videos for each of the songs on it, and starting with Thunder Kiss ’65 he directed all of the videos for the band that made him famous. He did the music video trip sequence in Beavis and Butthead Do America and he is currently working on an animated version of The Haunted World of El Superbeasto and a new Halloween Film. 13) DangerMouse, John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, General Chang in Star Trek VI, Captain Typho in the Star Wars prequels, Sagat in Street Fighter II, and Marvel’s Nick Fury all had one of these, as did Big Boss on conflicting sides of his face in the Metal Gear series and Number Two in the Austin Powers movies. A recent MythBuster’s episode made plausible the myth that these could be used to improve night vision in the dark bowels of ships. 14) The person responsible for voicing this character also starred in Petticoat Junction and Leave It to Beaver, and that thespian for this character was the oldest surviving member of The Flinstones cast until her death in 1999. In the original version of the show in which this Jean-Vander-Pyl-voiced character appeared, she was only shown in two episodes and the closing credits, but in the 1980s incarnation this obsolete model had a bigger role. She has previously starred in spots for RadioShack, while more recently she has appeared in an AT&T commercial on the history of talking robots. 15) Incubation time varies between a half-hour and an hour after which proper identification must be worn. If within forty-eight hours a kill is not made, some players will starve to death. Safe zones include personal rooms, eating areas, academic buildings and work areas although the safety of bathrooms is debated. Weapons include pool noodles, balled up socks, and Nerf guns, but all weapons can only be used to stun the target for fifteen minutes. Using the placement of headbands as team identifiers this is, FTP, what game, played on college campuses, between the human resistance and the ravenous undead.

16) Its origins stem back to the E0 model in 1986, and currently there are over 20 of them that have appeared at events like ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange. It goes by a different name in Japan, appropriately sharing the name with a word that means “legs also” since it can walk with humans while holding their hand. Its English name is an acronym and the automotive company that created it claims that the name is not a reference to an important founder of robotic concepts. FTP, identify this white humanoid robot that looks like an astronaut, and that was created by Honda.

17) The oil by-product from these substances consists of approximately ninety percent of d-Limonene, a relatively pleasant smelling chemical used in household cleaning products. One type of this food, mutated in a Brazilian monastery to have a thick rind, was later developed by the US Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., a city that lends that type of this food its name, and only twenty percent of this product is sold as a whole fruit. FTP, identify this fruit coming most notably in Bahia, sweet, sour, and mandarin varieties, a food that pirates would take with them on voyages to avoid scurvy.

18) In the first title in this series, the protagonist battled the Malice Four, a group who served Jaquio. Two more NES games would be released, as well as a version called Shadow for the Game Boy. A next generation version of this game was originally planned for an arcade and Dreamcast release, and an edition called Sigma is planned for the Playstation 3. The next-gen iteration was eventually released for the Xbox, and a second version, subtitled Black, added better camera angles and more difficulty settings. FTP, identify this competition sponsored by the United States Defense Department that awards a one million dollar cash prize for the autonomous vehicle best able to complete a long distance road course each year, notably 2005’s race through Mojave desert.

21) They were rarely used to kill an opponent, instead being employed as a complement to their wielders’ main weapon that were usually aimed at a foe’s eyes or hands. One of these forms the logo for the Betrayers of Kamigawa expansion to Magic the Gathering, and Elektra and Bullseye frequently use them in the Daredevil comics. The Bo type of this weapon was essentially a straight metal spike, while the more familiar one to Western audiences is called a Hira and was often laced with poison.
