Key Accountabilities & Duties: The Network Administrator is a member of the Information Technology (IT) Department. Based on the level of the position, this position’s responsibilities and experience requirement increase. The primary role of this position is to design, manage, implement and maintain the cooperative’s wide area and location area network including but not limited to the servers, communication systems, EnergyUnited’s fiber network and workstations. In addition, this team member will be responsible for their reliability and the security of these systems. In addition, he/she will research technology options, interface with vendors and provide technology solutions to support business requirements.

Broad Scope

Network Administrator II

• Must be fully competent and perform all aspects of duties and responsibilities of the Network Administrator I position.

• Play a leading role in maintaining and supporting the Cooperative’s fiber and copper cabling infrastructure.

• Install, configure and maintain the cooperative’s servers, storage and backup technologies.

• Ensure proper operation of all the cooperative’s network equipment. Proactively monitor and maintain systems to ensure system reliability.

• Assist in maintaining the cooperative’s firewall, VPN, web filter, intrusion detection software, and email filter and virus protection to ensure security and protection of the cooperative’s systems.

• Act as first point of contact for the Cooperative’s threat management services.

• Manage and maintain the Cooperative’s voice and data communications equipment and vendors.

• Manage and maintain the Cooperative’s telephone system ensuring proper release levels and optimal performance.

• Ensure that there are proper recovery methods in place and that the systems can be restored should equipment fail. Participate in the cooperative’s business continuity drills.

• Maintain an up-to-date detailed inventory of all server, storage and backup system technologies.

• Assist in managing the performance of the cooperative’s LAN and WAN equipment.

• Troubleshoot, repair and recommend for replacement server, storage and backup hardware.

• Perform operating system upgrades and installations.

• Serve as the liaison between vendors and end user departments to resolve software or hardware issues that may arise.

• Write instructions for the IT staff to describe server, storage and backup operating procedures and new deployment of applications or security systems.

• Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a detailed inventory for software and license compliance.

|Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology or related field. Additional experience and industry-recognized certifications may be|

|Must have five or more years of experience working in an information technology department supporting enterprise-class networks and fully |

|competent in all responsibilities of the Network Administrator I position. |

|Must have extensive experience working with modern Windows Operating Systems particularly on the server-side in a data center environment. |

|This role requires expert-level knowledge of all modern server hardware and the ability to troubleshoot all mainstream server hardware and |

|Operating Systems. |

|A broad background in supporting LAN technologies such as switching and Ethernet cabling is also required. |

|Must have expert knowledge of physical layer cabling systems such as Ethernet patch panels, plugs and jacks and know how to terminate and test |

|installations. |

|Must have deep understanding of Windows shell commands and can write complex batch, PowerShell and VB scripts. |

|Must understand Windows shell commands and can write simple batch and PowerShell scripts. |

|Must have expert knowledge of PC applications including Microsoft Office 2007/10/13/16, Office 365 environment, Visio and Windows client |

|operating systems. |

|Must have above average knowledge of how TCP/IP is implemented in a LAN environment to include DHCP and DNS. |

Direct Reports: None

Internal Relationships: The Network Administrator shall maintain internal relationships necessary to achieving the above departmental results.

External Contacts: Must maintain relationship with vendors to ensure that hardware/software issues are resolved, future hardware direction is identified and supported environments are kept up to date. Shall maintain necessary job related external contacts to assure satisfactory results.

Authority: The Network Administrator is authorized to take any actions necessary to carry out the responsibilities delegated to him/her so long as such action does not deviate from established corporate policies and is conducted with sound business judgment. The exceptions to this authority are limited by the discretion by the Manager of Infrastructure and System Security.

WORKING CONDITIONS - Normal working conditions and hours of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some irregular working hours may be required. The duties of this position are primarily performed in an office environment or computer room with travel required as necessary to the position.

WORK REQUIREMENTS – Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license with good driving record. All employees who are subject to “on-call” duty must make their domicile within twenty statute road miles from their respective assigned district, regional or headquarters office, except for those “on-call” employees who have been approved with remote capabilities must make their domicile within one of the nineteen counties served by the Cooperative.

EXEMPT STATUS – This position is non-exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act as amended.
