Service of Morning Prayer

St Mary’s Buckden and All Saints Offord

Morning Service

[pic]

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you;

O Lord, open our lips

and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Hymn

From heaven you came, helpless babe,

Entered our world, your glory veiled;

Not to be served but to serve,

And give your life that we might live.

Chorus: This is our God, the Servant King,

He calls us now to follow him,

To bring our lives as a daily offering

Of worship to the Servant King.

There in the garden of tears,

My heavy load he chose to bear;

His heart with sorrow was torn,

'Yet not my will but yours,' he said.

Chorus:

Come, see his hands and his feet,

The scars that speak of sacrifice,

Hands that flung stars into space

To cruel nails surrendered.

Chorus:

So let us learn how to serve,

And in our lives enthrone him;

Each other's needs to prefer,

For it is Christ we're serving.

Chorus:

This is the day that the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Jesus said: Do not worry about your life, what you will eat

or what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body more than

clothing. Consider the ravens, they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than the birds.

Loving God we are here to worship you.

Help us to pray in faith, to sing your praise with gratitude

and to listen to your word eagerly;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Gospel tells us to turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.

As we offer ourselves to him in penitence and faith,

we renew our confidence and trust in his mercy.

Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed.

We have not loved you with our whole heart.

We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.

In your mercy, forgive what we have been,

help us to amend what we are and direct what we shall be;

that we may do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with you,

our God.

Amen.

The bible tells us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just.

He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all that is wrong

So we give thanks to the God of love who brings us back to himself, forgives us our sins, and assure us of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Psalm 16

Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.

I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence,

with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Amen.

Sermon summary

Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come to judge the living and the dead,

And his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayers

Lord Jesus, you said to your disciples ‘I am with you always’.

Be with us now as we offer ourselves to you.

Hear our prayers for others and ourselves

Lord, hear us,

Lord, graciously hear us.

Merciful God, we entrust to your tender care

those who are ill or in pain, whether from Covid 19 or other causes.

May they know that whenever danger threatens

your everlasting arms are there to hold them safe.

Comfort and heal them,

and restore them to health and strength;

Lord, hear us,

Lord, graciously hear us.

Gracious God,

give skill, sympathy and resilience

to all who are caring for the sick,

and your wisdom to those searching for a cure.

Strengthen them with your Spirit,

that through their work many will be restored to health;

Lord, hear us,

Lord, graciously hear us.

For those who are guiding our nation at this time,

and shaping national policies,

that they may make wise decisions:

Lord, hear us,

Lord, graciously hear us.

Lord Jesus Christ,

you taught us to love our neighbour, and to care for those in need

as if we were caring for you.

In this time of anxiety, give us open hearts to look out for the fearful,

to tend the sick, and to assure the isolated

of our love, and your love.

Lord, hear us,

Lord, graciously hear us.

We gather up our prayers as we pray together

the prayer that Jesus taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,

for ever and ever.

Amen

Hymn

Crown him with many crowns,

the Lamb upon his throne.

Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns

all music but its own.

Awake, my soul, and sing

of him who died for thee,

and hail him as thy matchless king

through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of life,

who triumphed o'er the grave,

and rose victorious in the strife

for those he came to save;

his glories now we sing

who died and rose on high,

who died eternal life to bring,

and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of love;

behold his hands and side,

rich wounds, yet visible above,

in beauty glorified;

no angels in the sky

can fully bear that sight,

but downward bends their burning eye

at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of years,

the potentate of time,

creator of the rolling spheres,

ineffably sublime.

All hail, Redeemer, hail!

for thou hast died for me;

thy praise shall never, never fail

throughout eternity.

O gracious and holy Father,

give us wisdom to perceive you,

diligence to seek you,

patience to wait for you,

eyes to behold you,

a heart to meditate upon you,

and a life to proclaim you,

through the power of the spirit

of Jesus Christ our Lord.

And the blessing of God almighty,

the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

be among us and remain with us always.

Amen

Let us go into this day in peace to love and serve the Lord

In the name of Christ. Amen
