The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy - RCN DC Metro

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy

There are many prayers invoking the Mercy of God. A particularly beautiful devotion is the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy. The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of St. Faustina, a simple Polish nun, who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary recording the revelations she received from Christ regarding His mercy. In a vision to St. Faustina in 1935, the Lord revealed a powerful prayer that He wanted everyone to pray - the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy - and He promised extraordinary graces to those who would recite it.

"Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death... Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy... I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy... (Diary 687)

Prayed on ordinary rosary beads, the Chaplet is an intercessory prayer that extends the offering of the Eucharist. It may be said at any time, but our Lord specifically requested that it be used as a novena on the nine days before the Feast of Mercy (the first Sunday after Easter).

It is also especially appropriate to say the Chaplet during the three o'clock hour, recalling the time of Christ's death on the cross. In His revelations to St. Faustina, Our Lord asked for special prayer and veneration for His Passion during that time.
