Job Title: Early Childhood / Pre-K Teacher Assistant Program: Smith Hill Early Childhood Learning Center Reports To: SHECLC Director, Classroom Teacher, and Education Coordinator

SUMMARY

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety and well-being; providing instruction and facilitation to groups and individual children under the direction of the Teacher; and collaborating with the Teacher to assess the strengths and needs of children and design appropriate classroom activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

? Assist teacher in any way possible, which may include, but is not necessarily limited to: o Plan activities for assigned groups or individual children. o Implement the daily schedule as assigned. o Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's artwork, and other hangings. o Serve breakfast, lunches, and snacks. o Help with materials and room clean-up and organization.

? Provide nurturing and supportive environment for children, using positive behavior interventions and preventative strategies to manage classroom behavior.

? Complete required number of training hours each year by local workshops and trainings. ? Assume temporary responsibilities of the teacher in their absence. ? Report any special needs or problems of individual children to the classroom teacher. ? Work with children who have special needs, supporting their developmental and behavioral

characteristics. ? Report and cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Director, or make a direct call to

DCYF (1-800-RICHILD). ? Assist in supervising naptime, outdoor play, and toileting. ? Assistants will follow a 10 month work schedule of 8 hours (plus 30 minute lunch) per day

from 8:00 am-4:30 pm.

Education and Experience

? CDA plus 9 credit hours of early childhood or related coursework. OR

? 12 credit hours of early childhood or related coursework. OR

? Associates degree in early childhood education. AND

? RIELDS Foundations preferred (must be able to complete within 2 years from the date of employment)

Language Skills ? Ability to read and interpret lesson plans and books. Ability to write and/or print posters and signs.

Mathematical Skills ? Ability to perform basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)

Reasoning Ability ? Ability to recognize problems.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations ? Ability to work towards CPR & first aid certification.

There will also be frequent standing, kneeling, and bending.
