ICC Agenda for Tuesday February 19, 2013

NHE 106

10:00 a.m. (late start due to 9:00 a.m. subcommittee meetings)

1. Approval of Minutes and enthusiastic welcome to Mark Medrano, our new student meeting recorder!

2. Consent Calendar

12-196: MATH 308B: Mathematics for Elementary Education restrict registration to Elementary Education and Child Development students (LSEE, CDEE, & LSCD)

12-197: MATH 308C: Mathematics for Elementary Education restrict registration to Elementary Education and Child Development students (LSEE, CDEE, & LSCD)

12-212: EMP 430: Natural Resource Management in Protected Areas add STAT 108 or 109 to the pre-reqs because that information is needed for EMP 430.

12-213: ENVS 450: Applied Ecological Restoration restrict registration to Senior Environmental Science Majors who need it for graduation – other students will be able to register through Permission numbers as space is available.

12-214: SPAN 310: Spanish Advanced Oral Skills remove required pre-requisites and add “recommended course preparation” of SPAN 207, SPAN 208 or SPAN 208S. Reason: Many students at HSU have the necessary level of preparation for this course but have not taken SPAN 207 or 208. Removing the enforced prerequisites makes the course more accessible for these students.

12-215: ENVS 350: Principles of Ecological Restoration restrict registration to Junior or Senior Environmental Science Majors who need it for graduation – other students will be able to register through Permission numbers as space is available.

12-220: JMS 150: Desktop Publishing change title to Digital Design, revise course description to reflect current technology and trends in the field

3. GEAR – Brief report?

4. AMP

12-201: Recreation Administration – Letter of Intent to move to a stand-alone major (Recommend Approve)

See draft letter from AMP.

Definition of what should be a credit-bearing course:

All courses offered at HSU must satisfy a requirement for graduation as a curricular requirement for GE, a major, a credential, or a Master’s degree.

Implications:

The following would no longer be courses: Marching Lumberjacks, Supplemental Instruction, Intercollegiate Athletics (?), a course that exists exclusively to serve a Minor, CCAT courses that are not listed as requirements for a degree program

IRA funding would need to be de-coupled from courses, so that activities (Marching Lumberjacks, CCAT, etc.) that rely on IRA money can continue to be funded. (This is already in process?)

5. Next week: Subcommittees
